Our social lives lend themselves to efficient collection of information, shares and broadcast irrelevances. A modernity driven by a real time marinade of electronic information. I suggest that we live in anticipation of the arrival of information. Work and social divergences have become accelerated, which has created nostalgia for previous unhurried social situations... In short a new social sensibility.

Who are we when we're online? And how can we engage in digital spaces in ways that don't undermine the mandates, practices, and ethos of higher education? The keynote explores the underpinnings of our emergent information ecosystem. Digital and open spaces are being weaponized, while pervasive surveillance and predatory practices are normalized. Trolling and bots are regular features of social landscapes, and people are often hesitant to engage online in fighting the echo chamber. Concepts of what it means to know are increasingly generated outside the academy, in Silicon Valley AI frameworks. What does this mean for higher ed, and for the future of knowledge in a data society? This keynote, from Virginia Tech's Digital Literacy Symposium, explores ideas grounded in adult education, critical pedagogy histories, and contemporary open practices—including participatory digital literacies and the pro-social web—that may be ways we can ALL help bring the web back from the brink.

Social media is a tool that is becoming quite popular these days because of its user-friendly features. Social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and more are giving people a chance to connect with each other across distances. In other words, the whole world is at our fingertips all thanks to social media. The youth is especially one of the most dominant users of social media. All this makes you wonder that something so powerful and with such a massive reach cannot be all good. Like how there are always two sides to a coin, the same goes for social media. Subsequently, different people have different opinions on this debatable topic. So, in this essay on Social Media, we will see the advantages and disadvantages of social media.

The exponential growth of social media and the ubiquitous use of mobile technology has changed the way we communicate both socially and for many also professionally. Digital spaces have to some extent removed barriers enabling social learning that is no longer constrained geographically (spacial boundaries) or by time-zone differences (temporal boundaries). It is therefore timely to consider our digital capabilities and how these can be used to communicate and collaborate; and through interconnectedness provide opportunities for lifelong and lifewide learning that extend beyond the formal learning we are all familiar with. This talk will consider why a professional online presence is so important; the value of using social media to develop global personal learning networks; and how through open sharing with our interconnected networks it is possible to develop our scholarly practice.

Catherine's session at LGComms Academy 2014 was entitled: Beyond communications engagement through to democracy, where she tackled some really interesting, challenging territory for public-sector communicators. In particular, Catherine pointed out why a networked, digital society demands not better communications but better democracy – and argued why this is an essential battleground for public-sector communicators in the future.

We're talking about a face-to-face, interactive meetup where YOU play a crucial role. Come along to: Define It: What does "value" really mean? We’ll build a definition that’s not just words, but a compass for your Agile journey. Contextualise It: Discover what value means specifically to you, your team, your company, and your industry. The standard Salesforce Approval process can be limiting in many ways, especially in complex scenarios. What if there was a way to implement very flexible approvals where one can use Apex code to make data updates in unrelated records, dynamically generate next steps details, and compute assignees on the fly? And still use UI-based configurations to implement concrete approval processes. In this session, we will share ideas behind such a solution and show a few lines of code to get you started.
