2. Glorious Revolution, also known as Bloodless or Peaceful
Revolution, was the replacement of the king, James II, with his
protestant daughter Mary
and her husband William.
3. *1687 James II issued the Declaration of Indulgence
It suspended the penal laws in matter of ecclesiastical in
England.
It proclaimed to obey the Kings´s sovereign authority,
prerogative royal and absolute power without reserve in
Scotland.
4. 1688 James II reissued the Declaration
Clergymen were ordered to read it in their churches.
William Sancroft, Archbishop of Canterbury and
other six Bishops presented a petition to declare
the Indulgence illegal. They were imprisoned but
acquitted later.
5. MARY
James´s daughter, Anne, was married William of Orange. They
were the succesors on the throne.
Most of the people were satisfied about their future with the
king and queen both protestant.
But in June, 1688, James´s son was born. It meant the
possibility of a new Catholic king.
6. IMMORTAL SEVEN
A group of seven protestant nobles invited William
III, Prince of Orange, to come to England with his
army. He accepted.
7. WILLIAM
William arrived in November, 1688.
He was supported by a lot of people,
many Protestant officers and James´s
own daughter, Princess Anne. James
declined to attack his army and got out
to France, his son and wife were there.
8. WILLIAM AND MARY
Parliament voted that William and Mary should be proclaimed
king and queen but they should respect the Bill of Rights
which was signed by them in 1689. This document limited
some powers and set out some rights.
It was established the Constitutional Monarchy.
