SETTING THE SCENE
8 teams down and just 4 to go.
4 teams representing 4 of the league’s 7 nations- China, Mexico, United Kingdom and United States - remain in contention for the
coveted World Championship of Fantasy Football. When the innumerable cries for mercy cease and the smoldering stench of broken
dreams are carried off by the tempest wind, only one team, one nation, will be left standing.
The path to this year’s World Bowl VII has been both hazardous and costly. To reach the Promised Land these 4 teams must first
survive the perils that await them in the realm known as the IFFL’s Semi-Finals. 2 teams will survive to fight another day. 2 will not.
Behold!
For the third time this season, Mexico’s #4 DRAGONES will square off against the world’s top-ranked team, China’s #1 SHANGHAI
WANG. Both teams split their two prior regular season matchups.
Only Shanghai Wang stands in the Dragones’ way from reaching their 2nd-straight World Bowl appearance. Their victory over
Shanghai Wang 2 weeks ago is whatbroughtthe Dragones to the here and now. Mahomes, Chubb, Lockett, Samuel, Andrews. That’s
enough talent to haunt any opposing fantasy team owner. It should be no wonder why the Dragones led the league in scoring and
amassed triple-digitpoints in 13 of their 14 regular season games. In addition, fantasy experts currently list the Dragones on top of the
power rankings board. However, the Dragones players have a concerning propensityto self-destructeven againstsome ofthe league’s
weaker teams, which is best illustrated by their 4-4 record down the stretch.
For Shanghai Wang,a victory over the Dragones would mark their first-ever playoff win and first-ever World Bowl appearance in their 4-
year history. Like this season,Shanghai Wang made the post-season in 2018 and 2019,earning a first-round bye each time, only to get
knocked out in each semi-final appearance. Like previous years, Shanghai Wang’s roster is overflowing with talent, with players like
Prescott, Taylor, Barkley, Evans, Hockenson, and the Patriots defense. Still, as good as things were, Shanghai Wang closed the
season out with back-to-back losses. Just as troubling is their base starters scored only 75 points during their first-round bye.
Next, we have a rematch of lastyear’s Semi-Final matchup between the USA’s 3rd seeded MIGHTY CYCLONES facing the UK’s 2nd-
ranked MEN OF STEEL. Could it be déjà vu all over? Last year, the Men of Steel handed the Mighty Cyclones their only loss of the
regular season. When both teams refaced each other in last year’s semi-finals, the Mighty Cyclones prevailed. Once again, the Men of
Steel won their only regular season matchup against the defending World Champions. Could lightening strike twice with the Mighty
Cyclones winning and thus advancing to a second-straight World Bowl?
With players like Garoppolo,Harris,Elliott, and Thielen, one would think the Men of Steel would have little problem ma uling the Mighty
Cyclones. But not so. Like Shanghai Wang, the Men of Steel lost their final 2 games. In addition, their starting base players failed to
reach triple-digit points during their much-deserved bye week.
Could the Mighty Cyclones be a sleeping giantsuddenlyawakened outof his slumber? Like Shanghai Wang and the Men of Steel, the
Mighty Cyclones went down in 2-straight defeats to close out the regular season. Entering their Wild Card upset victory over the high-
powered JAYMIN last week, the Mighty Cyclones were held to under 100 points in 4-straight games. But now things could be on an
upward trend. Going into this week’s contest, the Mighty Cyclones have 3 and possibly4 of their mostexplosive players returning to the
starting lineup, including wideouts AJ Brown and Antonio Brown, as well as running backs Kareem Hunt and D’Andre Swift.
That’s a look at this week’s International Fantasy Football League Semi-Final Round games. Merry Christmas, everyone and Happy
Birthday, Lord Jesus!
