Reading through Art
Project Based Learning is a
teaching method in which students gain knowledge and skills by
working for an extended period of time to investigate and
respond to an authentic, engaging and complex question,
problem, or challenge( http://www.bie.org/about/what_pbl).
According to (Larmar and Mergendoller, 2010), [ Schoolwork is
more meaningful when it's not done only for the teacher or the
test. When students present their work to a real audience, they
care more about its quality. Once again, it's "the more, the
better" when it comes to authenticity. Students might replicate
the kinds of tasks done by professionals—but even better, they
might create real products that people outside school use.]
Reading/English/Art
Objective: To learn how to comprehend and observe reading
stories through art. Identifying certain pictures and characters.
It's important to help kids see the path that will enable them to
succeed, letting them get lost from time to time and not take the
road less traveled, but to leave roads altogether in favor of the
forest.
Motivation: Teach students how to stay focus and compare
scenes through painting characters and scenes.
Standards: Part XCVII. Bulletin 1530--Louisiana’s IEP
Handbook for Students with Exceptionalities
Materials: Textbooks, Smartboard, Computer, Writing Utensils,
Paint Brushes, Oil Paint Posters, Art Materials
Students will start with an exercise
warm-up with "Go Noodle" to stimulate the brain and their
motor skills. Here are the steps:
 Students are in small groups
 Books are distributed and read alone or among groups
 Notes are taken and materials are issued
 Students will have to come up with a real-life event of the
scene or characters are replicate it through art forms.
 Students will compare and contrast each other’s work for a
deeper understanding and imagination.
 Once art work is finished, students will discuss and explain
the reason for their thinking either through reading or role-
playing.
 Students will have the opportunities to display their work in
the class or outside the school building.
Lesson Title: Pirate's Treasure - by Carol Moore - Illustrated
by Aura Moser - A pirate in Jimmy's dream tells him where to
find buried treasure. "Concepts of Print-Where to Begin
Reading and Drawing" students will work with teacher and
paraprofessionals to handwrite and understand the purpose of
lesson. Extended Time is needed,
Activity: Project-Based Learning- reading sheets with dictating
of finding certain characters and scenes with assistant with
teacher and paraprofessionals.
Model: Charts of Characters and Scenes from the story “Pirate’s
Treasure” display on interactive board and iPad.
Check for Understanding: Students will repeat work with
teacher and paraprofessionals.
Closure: Repeat, Recap, Repeat, Identify Objects and
Characters.

  • 2. Objective: To learn how to comprehend and observe reading stories through art. Identifying certain pictures and characters. It's important to help kids see the path that will enable them to succeed, letting them get lost from time to time and not take the road less traveled, but to leave roads altogether in favor of the forest. Motivation: Teach students how to stay focus and compare scenes through painting characters and scenes. Standards: Part XCVII.   • 3. warm-up with "Go Noodle" to stimulate the brain and their motor skills. Here are the steps:  Students are in small groups  Books are distributed and read alone or among groups  Notes are taken and materials are issued  Students will have to come up with a real-life event of the scene or characters are replicate it through art forms.  Students will compare and contrast each other’s work for a deeper understanding and imagination.  Once art work is finished, students will discuss and explain the reason for their thinking either through reading or role- playing.  Students will have the opportunities to display their work in the class or outside the school building. Lesson Title: Pirate's Treasure - by Carol Moore - Illustrated by Aura Moser - A pirate in Jimmy's dream tells him where to find buried treasure. "Concepts of Print-Where to Begin Reading and Drawing" students will work with teacher and paraprofessionals to handwrite and understand the purpose of lesson. Extended Time is needed, Activity: Project-Based Learning- reading sheets with dictating of finding certain characters and scenes with assistant with teacher and paraprofessionals. Model: Charts of Characters and Scenes from the story “Pirate’s Treasure” display on interactive board and iPad.
