4. What are Office Layouts?
• The Office Layout is the environment in which
employees work.
• It determines the following:
1. The way in which resources are placed in the
office eg: employees, desks, equipment.
2. The amount of space provided.
5. Types of Office Layout
There are 2 main types of office layout:
1. Cellular – also known as enclosed layout.
2. Open-plan – also known as flexible layout

• this is a very traditional style of layout
• consists of small individual rooms occupied by
one or two people.
11. Features: Open Plan Layout
• consists of a large open room with no dividing
walls or partitions.
• Employees from different departments work
together in the same area
• In order to give some privacy screens/dividers
are used hence creating cubicles.

Advantages
• More privacy (none to
overhear private
conversations)
• More security of
documents and
belongings
• Ability to design their
working environment to
suit their working style
• Less distractions
Disadvantages
• Staff can feel isolated
• Staff may not feel part
of a team

natural light or
ventilation
• Difficult to supervise
