    What Cooper interaction designers do

For either interaction design role, you must be quick-witted

and passionate about designing products the right way for

the people who use them. This means you’re also good at:

+ Understanding the complex systems, processes, and

    relationships of people and products.

+ Creatively solving problems at all levels of detail: from the big

picture to the nuts and bolts

+ Presenting your work before a room of curious and sometimes

skeptical developers, interested and sometimes demanding

    marketers, and time-challenged and sometimes

    impatient executives.

+ Learning new things. You’re as interested in what worries
stakeholders as you are in understanding what delights

surgeons, commodities traders, teenagers, and

purchasing agents.

+ Being decisive. You value feedback but don’t require it to

make a judgment call.

+ Working collaboratively. We believe the exchange of ideas

among the members of small, nimble teams is the fastest

route to the best solutions.

+ Empathizing. Our design method is built around satisfying the

needs and motivations of people. If you want to make things

better, we want you.

What Cooper visual designers do

Cooper visual designers are responsible for balancing usability with

desirability—using color, style, type, icons, information design, and visual

hierarchy to clarify data, indicate relationships, hint at behavior, and

communicate about brand. In collaboration with interaction designers, design

communicators and other team members, they:

+ Conduct research that gives clients insight into their brand.

+ Create a visual language strategy that achieves brand and user goals.

+ Iteratively refi ne a visual system that supports the interaction that makes

people want to spend time with the product, and that engineers can build.

+ Present visual design work and rationale, helping clients assess the work

based on the brand and persona goals rather than personal opinion.

working with producers and technologists to implement designs into technology frameworks.

* Exhibits stylistic breadth, attention to detail, and balances beauty, innovation and usability

requirements of our clients, the emotional desires of their customers, and the context in which
these two come together.

Responsibilities:

architecture design, interaction design, and usability testing
• Design and specify user interfaces and information architecture using participatory and iterative
design techniques, including observational studies, customer interviews, usability testing, and
other forms of requirements discovery
• Produce user requirements specifications, personas, storyboards, scenarios, flowcharts, design
prototypes, and design specifications
• Effectively communicate research findings, conceptual ideas, detailed design, and design
rationale both verbally and visually
• Work closely with development teams to ensure that design specifications are implemented

• A passion for creating products that resonate emotionally with people

UI Engineer at AppDirect (SaaS)

AppDirect's mission is to make a marketplace platform accessible to anyone - product developers,
branded partners, or end-users. We're currently powering 4 marketplaces, and with many more
ready to launch, our numbers are growing at a staggering rate. Our front-end has
the responsibility of delivering a generative experience for all, and with that comes some interesting
problems to solve: api availability, scalability, optimization, and modularizing a data-driven UI.

We have a small, tight-knit team of kick-ass developers and designers with many shared
responsibilities - you should be ready to take on everything from releasing open-source javascript
libraries, whipping up A/B tests, implementing responsive web design principals, and applying your
high standards for accessibility and browser compatibility.

About You:
You demonstrate strong knowledge of JavaScript and love to build with high quality code and
efficiency (we enjoy jQuery, Backbone, and raphaelJS).
You have a critical, detail-oriented eye for design and interaction, and aren't afraid to make
  design decisions.
You love writing efficient, semantic HTML / CSS built with great tools like lessCSS and the best of
  HTML5 and CSS3.
You're not afraid to dig in and refactor other people's code or declare that it must be destroyed
for the greater good (or do so for your own).
You can identify and address performance bottlenecks in a production environment.
Above all, you're committed to building amazing user experiences.
Bonuses:
Knowledge and experience with Java or related frameworks.
A GitHub, Quora or StackOverflow account that demonstrates what you love to do.
Interest or experience in data collection and visualization.
  Interest and experience using Backbone.js.
