1. Jeanne is from Rwanda. In 1994, aged just three, she saw her mother and father murdered in the genocide which left nearly a million dead in 100 days. Though she was just an infant, her memories of that time are horrifically vivid. Jeanne has seen things that no child should ever have to see. And those memories are with her still. 2. Jeanne and her brothers fled, reaching the safety of the neighbouring country of Burundi and the sanctuary of a church. Jeanne was just seven years old at the time. Not surprisingly, she dropped out of school. Like many other genocide survivors, her life seemed destined to be tainted forever by what she had experienced. 4. Together, the children have supported each other and given each other the strength to carry on. They’ve brought hope to one another, and to Jeanne, who eventually returned to school. Jeanne says: “I like being among people and learning again. It’s like starting a new life. I hope this life will have a happier ending.” You can make a lasting difference this Harvest Fast Day
