IRS Reporting Requirements
» Is workplace charging considered by the IRS as a benefit that will be
considered taxable income?
» No, providing free charging will not rise to the level of a taxable
benefit and will not have to be reported to the IRS.
» See IRS 2012 Employer’s Tax Guide to Fringe Benefits, page 20 for
information on Transportation (Commuter) Benefits.
» Workplace charging is not specifically identified, but the
information implies that a Transportation/Commuting benefit that
falls under a threshold of $125 ‐ $240 per month is not going to
rise to the IRS' reporting threshold.

Installed: 2009
Why: Building amenity
Incentives/Rebates: Dept. of Energy provided 8 stations free of
charge*
*Not eligible for rebates due to ownership structure of garage
Bill Rate: $0.95 per Hour – billed in 1 minute increments
Usage: Approximately 8 cars per day
Level I and Level II Connectivity: All 3 stations (5 chargers each)
have Level II and 1 charger per station has dual Level I and II
connectivity. Faster charge times for Level II and majority of EV’s
use Level II.
Greenhouse Gases Saved: 2012 -34,559 kg; YTD 2013 -12,494 kg
