I-LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM DESIGN
PROGRAM TITLE Three-Day School-Based In-Service Training Workshop of Bacolod
Elementary School and Santiago Chu Elementary School on Teaching
Strategies on Literacy and Crafting of Contextualized Instructional
Materials
Background and Rationale Legal Basis: DepEd Memo No. 058, s. 2022 monitoring of the mid-year review and the
conduct of INSET in schools. The adjustment of schedule of INSET based on the start of school
year maintains and sustains the capacity of teachers to continue to provide quality teaching
and learning.
A child’s reading skills are important in their daily interaction to the community. These
also indicate the success that they will get in the school as it will allow them to access the
breadth of the curriculum and improve their communication and language skills. However,
reading skills of children have been affected due to COVID-19 pandemic. Face-to-face
interaction of teachers to learners have been minimized and results to a number of struggling
readers across different grade levels.
Another concern is the presence of learning facilitators in home, who will assist the
learners in understanding learning content especially performing learning tasks. With this,
teachers must provide contextualized instructional materials to learners to have meaningful
and relevant context which may be answered with less assistance of learning facilitators.
With a minimized face-to-face interaction between teachers and learners, session on
teachers’ enhancement of teaching strategies on Literacy (Reading) and crafting of
contextualized materials will provide more productive and meaningful experiences to children
learning.
Target Competencies The activity aims to:
Enhance the capacity of teachers in providing reading interventions and construction of
contextualized instructional materials.
