4. January - InterContinental Hotels & Resorts (Montreal Snow Village)
This gorgeous photo shows a mixture of architecture and landscape photography with splendid
colours in the sky and the beautiful lighting on the ice structure. They add to the ambiance and
atmosphere of the Snow Village, which was unique to North America at the time.

5. February – Indigo Books & Music (Indigo Love of Reading Foundation)
To kick off the nation-wide tour starring The Cat In The Hat, Indigo requested CNW photography
services. This photo is fun and illustrates the excitement of the children offering viewers an insight
of this special event.

6. March - Herzog & De Meuron
Don't get me wrong, Toronto is great but New York City is New York City! This rendered image
issued with the announcement of the condo development 56 Leonard makes me dream. It mixes a
gorgeous sunset and a design home together within the heart of one of the greatest cities in the
world.

7. April - Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG)
I like this photo captured by CNW’s photojournalist Michelle Siu because it’s different from the
usual cheque presentation portrait. Rather than creating the typical photo that showcased people
smiling while grabbing the giant cheque, the photographer made it interesting by capturing the
emotion of the grand prize winner.

8. May - City of Montreal
This is the winning photo of the "Montréal à l'œil" contest organized by the City of Montreal,
Design Montreal, Tourism Montréal and Photoservice. To describe why I like this photo, allow me
to quote the photo contest organizers, "This photo is remarkable for its quality, and on the
integration of everyday life. The bus, the bench and the trees evoke the impact of these discrete
elements on the quality of public spaces in our everyday life". Congratulations to Adrien
Williams for capturing this beautiful urban scene!

9. June - Scotiabank
Covering sporting events requires preparation and exceptional scouting skills to find ideal
locations. Anticipating key moments is one of Jeff Vinnick’s strengths, one of CNW's own
photographers. We asked him to cover the Scotiabank Vancouver Half-Marathon. He came back
with several stunning shots including this one, which was taken in the fraction of a second at the
finish line. This image captured the victory, the emotion and the satisfaction of the winning runner,
all in one shot.

10. July - Unis pour Lac-Mégantic
This photo shows the town of Lac-Mégantic before the tragedy of July 6th 2013. Lac Mégantic is
forever changed, but will never be forgotten.

11. August - Greater Toronto Airports Authority
CNW’s photographer Shan Qiao was on the scene when international street performers surprised
airport guests, as Toronto Pearson kicked off Scotiabank’s BuskerFest celebrations. In this image,
Shan was able to capture the interaction of the artists with children. This shot captured the
fascination towards these burkers, which offers non-stop fun to hundreds of amazed spectators.

12. September - ArcticNet
To announce the decision to curtail a science expedition to assist the Transportation Safety Board
of Canada following an accident involving a helicopter, ArticNet sent out this impressive photo of
the icebreaker CCGS Amundsen in Northern Canada.

13. October - Canada's Wonderland
Who’s afraid of clowns? Canada’s Wonderland used this photo to announce the return of its
annual Halloween Haunt, which is Canada's largest Halloween event. A well-executed portrait of a
psychotic clown representing the experience of horror, where your worst nightmares may come
true.

14. November - The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair
This is a different and very interesting perspective of the Royal Horse Show. The use of a wide
angle lens brings you close to the action during a competition in which Beth Underhill took the
runner-up spot in the Greenhawk Canadian Cup. This signaled the return to indoor competition for
her horse Viggo following a near two-year hiatus.

15. December - Canadian Olympic Committee
The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) launched its "We Are Winter" campaign by distributing
this photo through CNW. This is COC’s most integrated, digitally enabled and largest brand
undertaking in its history and calls upon Canada to rally behind Sochi-bound athletes. The highly
stylized shots of the campaign make these images stand out through their visual appeal, which
portray our athletes as superheroes while defining who we are as a country. Best of luck to all
athletes in Sochi 2014!
