Traditional Food
• The most typically British dishes are:
A full English Breakfast (fry up), Fish and Chips, a Sunday
roast, Toad in the Hole, Beef Wellington, Shepherd’s Pie etc
• Most meals abide by the “meat and two veg” rule
• Dishes tend to consist of hearty portions of meat with
gravy!
Desserts
• Desserts are very important!
• There are hundreds of British desserts that are loved nationwide,
and it is not uncommon for towns and cities to have their own
classic desert. (E.g. Manchester tart)
• We tend to eat a lot of sweet stuff and we would generally always
follow our main evening meal with a dessert.
When we eat
• Our eating times seem to be more relaxed than here, and people tend to eat when they
are hungry, but a typical daily routine would be:
• Breakfast = 8am to 10 am
• Lunch = 12pm to 2pm
• Dinner = 5pm to 7pm
• For me the routine would normally be 9am, 1pm, 5pm, but that has changed completely
since moving here
• Also note that people in the North refer to the meals as follows: breakfast, dinner, tea!
My normal diet
• Typically for breakfast I would eat a crumpet or some toast with a cup of tea.
Cereals or toast are a typical breakfast, and a full English is something that we
tend to have on weekends.
• For lunch I don’t eat much, but a typical lunch is a sandwich, a packet of
crisps, some fruit and/or chocolate and a drink.
• Evening meals normally have a meat and two veg style. At home I would
normally have something like Shepherd’s pie (minced meat with chopped up
carrots and gravy, topped with mash with more gravy on top!). More or less
every Sunday we have a roast.
• Afterwards my family always have some tea and biscuits or cake.
Christmas
On Christmas we eat our main meal
around 2pm.
This year my meal consisted of: 3 types
of roasted meat (turkey, pork and beef),
roast potatoes, mashed potatoes, carrots
and turnip, Yorkshire puddings, pigs in
blankets and gravy!
It is a huge meal that is followed later on
by a typical Christmas pudding which is
covered in Brandy and set on fire.
My auntie prepared a chocolate cake
alternative made with the popular
chocolate, Maltesers.
At night time we tend to have a buffet
with sandwiches made with the left over
meat, and cheese and crackers.
What I have brought to Vic!
With me I have brought lots of tea bags, a
mountain of chocolate and classic foods
like crumpets, Heinz tomato soup and
cheese from the region I am from!

  • 2. Traditional Food • The most typically British dishes are: A full English Breakfast (fry up), Fish and Chips, a Sunday roast, Toad in the Hole, Beef Wellington, Shepherd’s Pie etc • Most meals abide by the “meat and two veg” rule • Dishes tend to consist of hearty portions of meat with gravy!
  • 3. Desserts • Desserts are very important! • There are hundreds of British desserts that are loved nationwide, and it is not uncommon for towns and cities to have their own classic desert. (E.g. Manchester tart) • We tend to eat a lot of sweet stuff and we would generally always follow our main evening meal with a dessert.
  • 4. When we eat • Our eating times seem to be more relaxed than here, and people tend to eat when they are hungry, but a typical daily routine would be: • Breakfast = 8am to 10 am • Lunch = 12pm to 2pm • Dinner = 5pm to 7pm • For me the routine would normally be 9am, 1pm, 5pm, but that has changed completely since moving here • Also note that people in the North refer to the meals as follows: breakfast, dinner, tea!
  • 5. My normal diet • Typically for breakfast I would eat a crumpet or some toast with a cup of tea. Cereals or toast are a typical breakfast, and a full English is something that we tend to have on weekends. • For lunch I don’t eat much, but a typical lunch is a sandwich, a packet of crisps, some fruit and/or chocolate and a drink. • Evening meals normally have a meat and two veg style. At home I would normally have something like Shepherd’s pie (minced meat with chopped up carrots and gravy, topped with mash with more gravy on top!). More or less every Sunday we have a roast. • Afterwards my family always have some tea and biscuits or cake.
  • 6. Christmas On Christmas we eat our main meal around 2pm. This year my meal consisted of: 3 types of roasted meat (turkey, pork and beef), roast potatoes, mashed potatoes, carrots and turnip, Yorkshire puddings, pigs in blankets and gravy! It is a huge meal that is followed later on by a typical Christmas pudding which is covered in Brandy and set on fire. My auntie prepared a chocolate cake alternative made with the popular chocolate, Maltesers. At night time we tend to have a buffet with sandwiches made with the left over meat, and cheese and crackers.
  • 7. What I have brought to Vic! With me I have brought lots of tea bags, a mountain of chocolate and classic foods like crumpets, Heinz tomato soup and cheese from the region I am from!
