The art of interpreting signals (precursors of trends) is – and always has been –
important in navigating financial markets and economies. To manage career
and/or job search processes wisely, it’s crucial to look at the signals of the job
market, which are inseparably embedded in the VUCA landscape of today's
world.
We’ve been keeping an eye on the number of job ads on LinkedIn in 18
European countries since Week 13 of 2020 – extended to 36, and ultimately 38
countries since Week 15 and 17 respectively – this allows us to measure a KPI that
gives quite a good feel of the overall trend on the job market. We analyze the
collected figures and observe if and what kind of trends there are, to leverage
them into better career management & more effective job search methods.
In Week 39, we extended our observations even further, to gain an insight into the
global job market. This is the second report on our new findings, and this time
we’re taking a look at North, Central & South America.

3. The Americas
North & South America's LinkedIn job ad level present similar tendencies
that happen at slightly different timing and with different intensity. Although
Central America also comes close to the two other regions, there were
moments when it took a completely different direction as e.g. in Week 41
(increase) & Week 44 (decrease).

4. North America
The North American countries seem to have been following similar trends in
the number of LinkedIn job ads overall. There were moments of complete
coherence, like in Week 42, when the whole region noted a decrease,
followed by a rise in Week 43, and then by another decrease in Week 44.

5. After 4 weeks of a visible, but stable increase, in Week 42 Canada started
to experience a period of alternating decreases and increases. In the best
Week 49, we observed 323,119 job ads that were published on LinkedIn.

6. The best result of Mexico was noted in Week 47, when 149,338 job ads
were published on LinkedIn. This increase was preceded by 7 weeks of
mild changes and followed by a significant decrease.

7. The United States' level of LinkedIn job ads has been very unstable. We
observed severe fluctuations between very drastic falls and similarly visible
increases. Between Week 44 & 45 the level of job ads didn't change.

9. Central America
The region includes both countries that were very stable for the whole period of
12 weeks (Costa Rica, El Salvador) and those that experienced severe changes
(Nicaragua). The best week for Central America was Week 42, when we
observed an overall increase of 181% in the number of LinkedIn job ads.

10. Costa Rica
Costa Rica's level of LinkedIn job ads has been showing a rather stable rising
trend with one significant decrease in Week 41. Weekly changes have been
very subtle, never rising above 20%. The best result: 4,060 job ads in Week 48.

11. El Salvador has noted three peaks in the number of LinkedIn job ads across
12 weeks of our observations: in Week 41, 44 and 49. Between them, the
country experienced periods of stability that slowly turned into upward trends.

12. For the first four weeks, Guatemala's level of job ads on LinkedIn was
visibly rising, and reached a peak in Week 42. Then, after 7 weeks of very
subtle changes, the country noted its best result in Week 48: 2,263 job ads.

13. Honduras saw a 2-week decrease of LinkedIn job ads until Week 41, which was
followed by a significant increase. Since Week 43, the country has been experiencing
fluctuations between rises & falls that have been alternating weekly or bi-weekly.

14. Nicaragua noted a significant increase in the number of LinkedIn job ads
in Week 41, that was followed by a similarly severe fall 2 weeks later.
Since then, the numbers have been rising more subtly and steadily.

15. Panama's has been following a positive rising trend. Apart from a very drastic
rise between Week 41 & 43, the changes have been rather subtle, but coming
close to the best result that was noted in Week 43: 2,772 job ads on LinkedIn.

16. South American countries seem to have followed similar tendencies, with
the exception of Chile and Brazil, whose levels of job ads on LinkedIn
were more unstable. The best weeks overall were Week 41 & 48 (+121%
and +48% respectively) and the worst - Week 50 with a -23% decrease.

17. Argentina reacted with a significant increase in Week 39. Then, between
Week 41 & 49, the country was experiencing very mild changes in the
number of job ads on LinkedIn, which eventually rose to 39,004 in Week 50.

18. Bolivia started with a stable increase between Week 39 & 43 that finished with the
highest noted result in the country - 674 job ads in Week 44. In Week 50 though,
the numbers fell noticeably again, leaving the country with 499 LinkedIn job ads.

19. The number of job ads published on LinkedIn in Brazil hasn't really
changed much for the whole period of 12 weeks, with two exceptions -
Week 44 & 47, when the numbers rose by 311% and 142% respectively.

20. Chile's number of job ads on LinkedIn was stable between Week 39 & 43,
staying between 45,000 and 55,000 until Week 44. Then, the numbers rose by
298%, reaching a point of 211,526 job ads in Week 44.

21. Colombia has been experiencing an overall upward trend with a few
more significant decreases (Week 43, 45 and 48). In the best Week 47,
52,710 job ads were published on LinkedIn.

22. Ecuador has been experiencing alternating periods of rises and falls, with
each increase being more significant than the one before. This resulted in
Week 49 being the best one, with 3,939 published LinkedIn job ads.

23. The number of job ads published on LinkedIn in Paraguay has been
almost constantly rising, with the exception of Week 41 & 43, which
were the only noted decreases. The best result: 153 job ads in Week 49.

24. Peru's level of LinkedIn job ads has been stable for most of the time,
but Week 48 brought a significant rise to 15,091 job ads, which was the
country's best result. Since then, the numbers started to fall again.

25. Uruguay's level of LinkedIn job ads rose significantly in Week 41, but then the
country noted a decrease in Week 44. Since then, the numbers have been
slowly rising again, reaching the highest point in Week 49: 3,203 job ads.

26. Venezuela noted 2 significant peaks that happened after weeks of constant
increase. Each high point was followed by a drastic fall. The best result was
noted in Week 44 (5,712 LinkedIn job ads), and the worst in Week 39 (4,247).
