Transforming Employee Experience
Companies are taking a holistic approach to
improving employee experience. Forward-
thinking organizations know that all facets of the
workplace play a role in keeping employees
empowered, productive, and happy—from their
physical environment, to the technological tools
available, to the culture of the organization.
Technology plays a primary role in improving the
experience of employees. By providing employees
with tools which enable them to do their jobs
better, they feel empowered and are ultimately
able to be more productive.

EMPLOYEE EXPERIENCE: WHY IT MATTERS
Not only is providing a stellar employee experience a way for companies to attract and retain valuable and
skilled employees, it is a huge driver in delivering excellent customer experience and service. In a survey
conducted by Deloitte, 85 percent of executives declared employee engagement to be important or very
important to overall business success. 1 In addition to improved productivity, 2 high employee engagement has
been tied to increased profits, higher customer retention, and better customer satisfaction.3
Employees will not be engaged if their overall experience is
poor. For example, outdated tools or insufficient access to
technologies leads to frustration, ultimately making them less
productive.

TECHNOLOGY |S A KEY DRIVER IN
EMPLOYEE EXPERIENCE
Technology remains at the core of all business. In the case of
employee experience, technology is any digital tool which
supports an employee in effectively doing their job, including
devices, laptops, video conferencing, or software. It can also
include a company’s social or communication channels like
Microsoft Yammer or internal blogs.
83 percent of U.S. employees consider it important to have access to the latest digital tools.5
Technology and tools should be accessible on mobile devices, allowing employees to work anywhere and at
any time. Additionally, companies should use sentiment surveys and tools to engage with employees on an
ongoing basis, as well as to help better understand employees wants, needs, and expectations.

THE IMPACT OF THE DIVERSE WORKFORCE
Our workforce is quickly shifting from a 9-to-5, clock-
in/clock-out mentality to employees who are online at all
hours of the day and who work from remote coffee shops,
home, and airports. It is crucial to strike a balance between
experienced, tenured employees who form the foundation of
our workforce, and millennials who are new on the scene,
bringing their own value and perspective. The needs of
these two groups and how they engage at work are vastly
different.
