2. Since we certified our film
as being an ‘18’, we then
agreed that our audience
would be of the age 18+.
Middle aged people would
also be our main target
audience for our film,
depending if this film was a
genre they liked.
We also said that our
target audience would be
mixed sex, as this is a type
of film that does not target
a specific gender.
3. Other Films
Se7en: This film was our major guideline for our opening. This
film is about a murderer who murders people according to the
seven deadly sins. This narrative would not be something
children and teens would understand nor would be appropriate
for, therefore targeting at the elder generation of middle aged
who’d like this gory genre.
The Woman in Black: This film was certified as a ‘12’ which was
debatable. It’s target audience was teens + as it wasn’t gory or
threatening, but a ghostly thriller that appealed to teenagers
likes. Teenagers would find this type of thriller exciting as they
like the thrills and jump scares, and the feeling of watching a
scary movie.
4. Target Audience Planning
This shows that the 19-26 year olds (young adults) were one of
the main groups we asked for the questionnaire. These results
show that out of the people we asked, horror was their
favourite and most popular genre. Therefore this backed up our
ideas of creating a horror genre for our film opening.
We asked our target audience what they’d expect
to see in a horror film, and the results were what
we thought. They’d like to see mysterious figures,
ghosts, blood etc. which was what we then
included in our opening as it’s what our audience
wanted to see.
5. Audiences interests…
Taking this image as an example of our target audience, I’d
say that the interest of young adults vary. The music taste
would be very modern and up to date as well as shopping,
by having fashionable clothes or branded clothes and
always keeping up to date with the latest gadgets. With
our target audience being young adults, we’re thinking
about the ages at university, therefore maybe not having a
huge budget, so not exactly ones to spend their money
easily.
Being at university would limit what they could watch on
TV and films, therefore relying on the media and social
networks to spread the advertisements of such things.
From our questionnaire, it’s clear to see that the teens
and young adults preferred the thriller genre above the
others and enjoyed the thrills.
