  2. 2. This poem is a wonderful creation of the poet William ButlerYeats. The poet used to live at Innisfree during his childhood. Thelyric explores the poet’s wish for the peace and tranquility ofInnisfree. “The Lake Isle of Innisfree” expresses the idea that natureprovides an inherently restorative place to which human beings cango to escape the chaos and corrupting influences of civilization. Inhis autobiography, Yeats writes that his poem was influenced by hisreading of American writer Henry David Thoreau’s Walden (1854),which describes Thoreau’s experiment of living alone in a small hutin the woods on Walden Pond, outside Concord,Massachusetts. “The Lake Isle of Innisfree” is written withan abab rhyme scheme corresponding to each of the three quatrainsin the poem, which are defined as a stanza composed of four lineswhich may or may not have a set line length. Also prevalent is theuse of alliteration and assonance, both of which emphasize themusical tone and rhythm of the piece.
