3. INTRODUCTION
WHAT IS ANDROID?
ANDROID is mobile operating system developed
by google.
Based on LINUX KERNEL.
Designed primarily for touchscreen mobile
devices
Most commonly used mobile OS.
It is popular with technology companies.
4. HISTORY OF ANDROID
ANDROID Inc. was founded in PALO ALTO,
CALIFORNIA in October 2003 by
Andy Rubin, Rich Miner, Nick Sears, Chris
White.
In July 2005, Google acquired Android Inc. for
at least $ 50 million.
The first commercially available smartphone
running android was the HTC DREAM released
on October 22,2008.
Since 2008, Numerous updates which have
improved the OS, adding new features to it.
5. Each major release is named after a sugary treat.
Ex- version 1.5 “cupcake“.
From 2010 to 2013, Hugo Barra served as
product spokesperson representing Android.
His improvements including honeycomb, ice
cream sandwich, jelly bean and kitkat OS system
launches NEXUS 4 and NEXUS 5 smartphones
In 2013 Barra left the Android an Andy Rubin
had moved from android, He was replaced by
SUNDER PICHAI who became the head of of
Android and chrome OS. And later he became
the CEO of GOOGLE.
In 2014, Google launches ANDROID ONE.
6. OPEN HANDSET ALLIANCE (OHA)
It is consortium of several companies.
The OHA was established on 6 November 2007,
led by google with 34 members, including mobile
handset makers, applications developers some
mobile carriers and chip makers.
Android , the flagship software of
the alliance, is based on an open
source license and has completed
against mobile platforms from
apple, microsoft .
7. FEATURES OF ANDROID
Messaging and MMS are available
Web browser
Voice based features, google searching through
voice.
Multitasking- deal with more the one application at
the same time.
Screen capture
Connectivity- GSM/EDGE, Wi-Fi, bluetooth
(sending files) , tethering(allows a phone to be used
wireless/wired wi-fi hotspot)
Interface that is better then the previous touch
screen mobiles.
8. Developing an android app is not tough using SDK(
standard development kit) and java emulator we
can easily develop applications that we want.
User gets million of applications that user can not
get in any other mobile operating system.
Android supports advanced audio/video/still media
formats such as MPEG-4,H.264,MP3,and
AAC,AMR,JPEG,PNG,GIF.
9. APPLICATIONS
Applications which extend the functioning of
devices are written using the SDK and often the
java programming language that has complete
access to the android applications.
Some of the important
applications are shareit,
instagram, whatsapp ,
amazon, picsart, twitter ,
opera mini, myntra etc.
10. DEVELOPMENT
In 2007, the green ANDROID LOGO was designed
for google by a graphic designer IRINA BLOK.
Inspired from the human symbol on restroom doors
and modified the figure into a robot shape.
11. RECEPTION
With the rapid increase in development of android
mobile phones manufacturers would be willing to
replace their existing operating system with
android.

It is unique and incomparable to other mobile
operating system.
