2. Once within the kingdom of
Solomon, there was a poor
woman named Rachel who
worked hard for little money.
One morning, she stood outside
the bakery, enjoying the smell of
freshly baked bread.
THE SOUND OF WEALTH
3. The baker, an envious man,
came out of the bakery when he
saw Rachel enjoying herself. He
yelled at her and said, “You
cannot smell my bread and cakes
for free. You must buy
something!”
THE SOUND OF WEALTH
4. Rachel told him that she was
only smelling, not eating them.
The greedy baker asked her to
pay him some money. But she
could not pay up. Then the baker
took her to King Solomon’s
palace.
THE SOUND OF WEALTH
5. The wise king listened to the
baker’s complaint. He asked
Rachel, “Is this true?”
“Yes”, she stammered. “Do you
have money?” King Solomon
continued. Rachel, who was
honest, answered, “I have three
coins”.
THE SOUND OF WEALTH
6. “Give them to me,” said the
King. When Rachel gave him
coins, they clinked and chimed
together.
“Can you hear the sound of the
coins?” King Solomon asked the
baker.
THE SOUND OF WEALTH
7. “Yes, great and wise King,”
answered baker happily.
King Solomon told the baker,
“The sound of her coins has
paid for the smell of your bread
and cakes”.
THE SOUND OF WEALTH
8. THE SOUND OF WEALTH
There are three characters in this story. Each character has certain
quality. In the story we learnt that Rachel was a very poor but honest
woman. She was too poor even to buy the bread and cakes. When the
king asked her, she said that she had no money. The king might have
believed her, since she could not even afford to buy any bread for
herself. As she was truthful, the king was able to make use of the
three coins to get her out of trouble.
