INTRODUCTION
 The child health nurse has the responsibility to
provide high quality care no matter the setting nor
the role practiced.
 Setting where the child health nurse are involved in
caring for the infants,toddlers, preschool children,
school children, adolescent.
 Inspite of best preventivw and promotive health
care,nurses role in hospital care is an important role
to maintain the physiological , psychology ,and
emotional state of child .
DEFINITION
 The nurse who taking care of neonates,
infants,toddlers and pre-school children in
hospital.
 Child health care nurse provide preventive,
promotive,curative and rehabilitation care in
hospital with all health services.
QUALITIES OF NURSE
 Paediatric nurse should have all desirable and
preferable qualities of a professional nurse.
 She should be a loving person and have liking for the
children.
 She should have patience and ability to understand
the child’s behaviour.
 She should be able to maintain good interpersonal
relationship and to provide safety and security to the
children.
 She should be friendly honest and gentle .
 She should be caring sympathetic respectful.
 She should be sensitive flexible.
 She should have critical thinking skills.
 She should be fun loving and positive.
 She should have attention to the details.
PREPARATION OF HOSPITAL
ENVIRONMENT FOR THE CHILD
 Hospitalization as a traumatic for the child but it
can be made comfortable.
 Nurse warm approach and their concern can help
the child and his family to cope up with
hospitalization in a positive way.
 The child should be made familiar with the
equipments around him and their sounds.
 Parents should be allowed to stay with the child.
 Child and his family should be acquainted with the
board and the places there may be required to go
during hospital stay.
 Parents should be come and involved in the care
of child.
MEASURES TO MAKE HOSPITAL
ENVIRONMENT FRIENDLY FOR
CHILDREN
 Assess the safety to toys. Toys should be
appropriate to the child age condition
and treatment.
 Setting limits is essential and children
should know where they are permitted to
go and what they are supposed to do.
 Ensure safe transportation for children
within or outside the unit in hospital.

HOSPITAL

 Pediatric nurse should provide
preventive promotive curative and
rehabilitative care in all levels of health
services.
 Hospital care of sick children include
comfort feeding bathing safety etc.
 At community centre basic responsibility
include health assessment immunization
primary health care and referral etc.
COORDINATOR AND COLLABORATORS
 The nurse plays an extremely
important role with the combination of
health care team members.
 Nurse maintain good interpersonal
relationship and communication with
the child family health team.
 The nurse co-ordinate nursing care
with the other services for meeting the
needs of child.
 For example: physician social worker
surgeon physiotherapists etc.
HEALTH EDUCATOR
 The nurses goal of the health team
is to provide information to the child
parents and significant other about
prevention of illness promotion or
health maintenance.

NURSE CONSULTANT
 The paediatric nurse can act as
consultant to guide parents for
maintenance and promotion of
health.

 Providing guidance to parents
in health hazard of children in
health team for own making in
different situations.
 The paediatric nurse should organise
care monitor and evaluate patient
treatment for successful outcomes.
 She or he acts as a manager of
paediatric care with units in hospital
clinics and community.
CASE MANAGER
RECREATIONIST
 The paediatric nurse play supportive
role for the child to provide play
facilities for recreation and
conversation for diversion.
 It helps to decrease crisis imposed by
illness or hospitalization.
SOCIAL WORKER
 Pediatrics nurse should
participate in social
services are referred
child and family child
welfare agencies for
necessary support.
NURSE RESEARCHER
 Research is an integral part of
professional nursing.
 Paediatric nurse should participate
or perform research activities.
 It helps to provide a basis for
changes in nursing practice
improvement in the child health
care and evaluate the care.
ROLE OF NURSE IN CARE OF INFANTS
 Nurse can also guide the parents to do some of
the procedure like measuring temperature of the
infant.
 Nurse can demonstrate the mother how to feed
the baby.
 She can minimise the separation anxiety among
infants.
 Nurse can teach the parents how to handle the
baby in different situation like during sleeping.
 Nurse should maintain the personal hygiene of a
Infant by checking their diaper time to time.
ROLE OF NURSE IN CARE OF TODDLERS
 Preserving the toddlers trust in parents.
 Help the child to express his or her emotions .
 Encouraging frequent visits of parents so that
child is not deprived of parental love.
 Nurse should give the child a sense of security to
the hospital.
 10 years aggressive behaviour of the toddler
should be a supported without any punishment
to the toddlers.
 Depending the child condition no should
encourage the child to play.
 She should help the child to cope up with the
hospital environment.
ROLE OF NURSE IN SCHOOL CHILDREN
 Children must be encouraged to watch TV
reads books at 17 so that they do not feel
bored.
 Nurse should encourage him/her to
participate in this activity.
 Nurse should provide privacy to them
when doing any care.
 Nurse must encourage the child to take
active part in their treatment and self care.
 Nurse should allowed the child to express
his or her fear anxiety and doubts.
ROLE OF NURSE IN ADOLESCENCE
 Nurse should understand the emotional impact
of illness on them.
 Nurse should routinely communicate with them
to make them comfortable in the new
environment.
 Nurse should explain the treatment programs
and care to the client.
 Nurses should reduce their inside level by
explaining the each activity during hospital
staying.
 Nurses should maintain good interpersonal
relationship with the client so that he she feels
free to ask anything.
 Reassurance and encouragement what self care
will help adolescent gain their self esteem and
independence.
NURSING DIAGNOSIS
 Anxiety related to hospital situation fear of
injury, separation from family, painful
procedures as evidenced by crying,
withdrawal or resistance.
 Risk for power Lesnar related to lack of
control over procedure, care and changes
in usual routine.
 Deficient diversional activity related to
confinement in bed or health care
facility,lack of appropriate stimulation from
toys or peers,activity restriction as
evidence by pulverization of boredom or
lack of participation in play.

INTRODUCTION  The child health nurse has the responsibility to provide high quality care no matter the setting nor the role practiced.  Setting where the child health nurse are involved in caring for the infants,toddlers, preschool children, school children, adolescent.  Inspite of best preventivw and promotive health care,nurses role in hospital care is an important role to maintain the physiological , psychology ,and emotional state of child .
  • 4. DEFINITION  The nurse who taking care of neonates, infants,toddlers and pre-school children in hospital.  Child health care nurse provide preventive, promotive,curative and rehabilitation care in hospital with all health services.
  • 5. QUALITIES OF NURSE  Paediatric nurse should have all desirable and preferable qualities of a professional nurse.  She should be a loving person and have liking for the children.  She should have patience and ability to understand the child’s behaviour.  She should be able to maintain good interpersonal relationship and to provide safety and security to the children.  She should be friendly honest and gentle .  She should be caring sympathetic respectful.  She should be sensitive flexible.  She should have critical thinking skills.  She should be fun loving and positive.  She should have attention to the details.

PREPARATION OF HOSPITAL ENVIRONMENT FOR THE CHILD  Hospitalization as a traumatic for the child but it can be made comfortable.  Nurse warm approach and their concern can help the child and his family to cope up with hospitalization in a positive way.  The child should be made familiar with the equipments around him and their sounds.  Parents should be allowed to stay with the child.  Child and his family should be acquainted with the board and the places there may be required to go during hospital stay.  Parents should be come and involved in the care of child.
  • 7. MEASURES TO MAKE HOSPITAL ENVIRONMENT FRIENDLY FOR CHILDREN  Assess the safety to toys. Toys should be appropriate to the child age condition and treatment.  Setting limits is essential and children should know where they are permitted to go and what they are supposed to do.  Ensure safe transportation for children within or outside the unit in hospital.
  • 8. ROLE OF CHILD HEALTH CARE NURSE IN HOSPITAL  Role of nurses are  PRIMARY CAREGIVER  COORDINATOR AND COLLABORATORS  ADVOCATE  HEALTH EDUCATOR  CONSULTANT  CASE MANAGER  RECREATIONIST  SOCIAL WORKER  RESEARCHER

PRIMARY CAREGIVER  Pediatric nurse should provide preventive promotive curative and rehabilitative care in all levels of health services.  Hospital care of sick children include comfort feeding bathing safety etc.  At community centre basic responsibility include health assessment immunization primary health care and referral etc.
  • 10. COORDINATOR AND COLLABORATORS  The nurse plays an extremely important role with the combination of health care team members.  Nurse maintain good interpersonal relationship and communication with the child family health team.  The nurse co-ordinate nursing care with the other services for meeting the needs of child.  For example: physician social worker surgeon physiotherapists etc.
  • 11. HEALTH EDUCATOR  The nurses goal of the health team is to provide information to the child parents and significant other about prevention of illness promotion or health maintenance.  Rule of 4 CS  C-CONFIDENCE  C-COMPETENCE  C-COMMUNICATION  C-CARING AND EMPATHY
  • 12. NURSE CONSULTANT  The paediatric nurse can act as consultant to guide parents for maintenance and promotion of health.  For example: guiding Prince about feeding practices accidents and prevention.
  • 13. NURSE COUNSELLOR  Providing guidance to parents in health hazard of children in health team for own making in different situations.
  • 14.  The paediatric nurse should organise care monitor and evaluate patient treatment for successful outcomes.  She or he acts as a manager of paediatric care with units in hospital clinics and community. CASE MANAGER
  • 15. RECREATIONIST  The paediatric nurse play supportive role for the child to provide play facilities for recreation and conversation for diversion.  It helps to decrease crisis imposed by illness or hospitalization.
  • 16. SOCIAL WORKER  Pediatrics nurse should participate in social services are referred child and family child welfare agencies for necessary support.
  • 17. NURSE RESEARCHER  Research is an integral part of professional nursing.  Paediatric nurse should participate or perform research activities.  It helps to provide a basis for changes in nursing practice improvement in the child health care and evaluate the care.
  • 18. ROLE OF NURSE IN CARE OF INFANTS  Nurse can also guide the parents to do some of the procedure like measuring temperature of the infant.  Nurse can demonstrate the mother how to feed the baby.  She can minimise the separation anxiety among infants.  Nurse can teach the parents how to handle the baby in different situation like during sleeping.  Nurse should maintain the personal hygiene of a Infant by checking their diaper time to time.
  • 19. ROLE OF NURSE IN CARE OF TODDLERS  Preserving the toddlers trust in parents.  Help the child to express his or her emotions .  Encouraging frequent visits of parents so that child is not deprived of parental love.  Nurse should give the child a sense of security to the hospital.  10 years aggressive behaviour of the toddler should be a supported without any punishment to the toddlers.  Depending the child condition no should encourage the child to play.  She should help the child to cope up with the hospital environment.

ROLE OF NURSE IN SCHOOL CHILDREN  Children must be encouraged to watch TV reads books at 17 so that they do not feel bored.  Nurse should encourage him/her to participate in this activity.  Nurse should provide privacy to them when doing any care.  Nurse must encourage the child to take active part in their treatment and self care.  Nurse should allowed the child to express his or her fear anxiety and doubts.
  • 21. ROLE OF NURSE IN ADOLESCENCE  Nurse should understand the emotional impact of illness on them.  Nurse should routinely communicate with them to make them comfortable in the new environment.  Nurse should explain the treatment programs and care to the client.  Nurses should reduce their inside level by explaining the each activity during hospital staying.  Nurses should maintain good interpersonal relationship with the client so that he she feels free to ask anything.  Reassurance and encouragement what self care will help adolescent gain their self esteem and independence.

NURSING DIAGNOSIS  Anxiety related to hospital situation fear of injury, separation from family, painful procedures as evidenced by crying, withdrawal or resistance.  Risk for power Lesnar related to lack of control over procedure, care and changes in usual routine.  Deficient diversional activity related to confinement in bed or health care facility,lack of appropriate stimulation from toys or peers,activity restriction as evidence by pulverization of boredom or lack of participation in play.
