3. INTRODUCTION
▪ The initiative is about clean cooking energy solutions in Siaya county, Kenya.
▪ It is meant for two things – distribute efficient cookstoves and financial
empowerment of the local communities especially women.
▪ It has saving and loan mechanism that enables the production efficient and
affordable cookstoves
▪ The project also grants micro-loans to local communities for education or
commercial purposes. (United Nation Climate Change, n.d.)

▪ Establishment of 654 saving and loan
groups with more than 15000 members
▪ 91% of members have purchases
efficient cookstoves
▪ More than 15000 efficient stoves
installed in 2013, with more than 76000
beneficiaries

5. HELPING PEOPLE
▪ Efficient cookstoves lead to use of less
fuel
▪ It save money and time
▪ Efficient combustion result in cleaner
indoor thus better health
▪ It improve the health of women and
girls
▪ The project had also generated jobs for
local communities.

6. HELPING PLANET
▪ Reduce amount of wood use hence
conserve forest
▪ Prevent erosions and micro-climate
conditions
▪ Sustainable use of woods and resources.

7. SCALE UP
▪ It has allow the purchase of carbon
credits with long-term investment
▪ It enables local community at Siaya
county to secure financial sustainability
▪ Provide basis for community
engagement.

▪ The project/initiative has empowered
local communities in Siaya county
financially
▪ It has provide the efficient stoves to the
local communities at affordable prices
▪ It has lead to job creations among the
local communities
▪ It has improved the income status and
contribute to the protection of the planet.
