How to mark a 1,500 word MICRO essay
Aims: For students to watch an extract from Enter the Void (Gasper Noe, 2010); then read
and mark a student essay based on the extract



Outcomes: by the end of the lesson students should be able to:
1. Read the essay and highlight specific use of MICRO language
2. Apply the WJEC marking criteria to the essay
3. Evaluate the student’s performance and agree upon a mark

Opening Credits
Example of a new and exciting way to start a film. The titles would have been designed in Adobe Photoshop
and imported as a PSD (Photoshop file). This is an effect you can try for your Creative Projects.

Read the essay (from Sound sub-heading)
Highlight any words you do not know
Look up the words in your Camera Workbook
Mark the essay based on the WJEC mark criteria

Your copy of the essay doesn’t mention CAMERAWORK. Having watched the
extract – what sort of comments would you make about the director’s use of
CAMERAWORK? How are the audience positioned in the scene?
