There are 4 obstacles which group has to negotiate in 45 mins
Each obstacle gets tougher as we go from one to another as we are to
learn as we negotiate the obstacle
The group is also to carry a load in the form of blue drum/barrel
The obstacles are nothing but certain areas of ground marked by start line
and finish line
The ground in between is out of bound as we have to cross without
touching the ground
Distance between start and finish line is 10-15 ft
As helping material provided are
› one balli of 5 ft and
› one plank of 5 ft
› Rope of 6 ft
There are certain structure between each start and finish line part of which marked
white can touched by material +candidate +load
Blue in bound for candidate but out of bound for material + load however
material and load can be held in air by candidates
Red out of bound for all material +candidate +load
We can visualise it as a river which we are to cross without touching water and
swimming
Start/entry
Obstacle 1 out of bound
Obstacle 2 out of bound
Obstacle3 out of bound
Obstacle 4 out of bound
Finish line
Each obstacle will have three approaches with
almost same degree of difficulties
Each approach it self will have three solutions
Once one approach is chosen stick to that approach
and look for solution otherwise you are not
consistent
Rules
› Group rule-
all members of the group must have crossed an
obstacle before approaching next. Approach
being narrow obstacle can be crossed one by
one . Wait for all to come else you will be taken
as selfish
› Distance rule
Distance more than 3 or 4 ft must be bridged by
helping material and not jumped even if you are
capable
Don’t ask question as to how much is 3or 4 ft
› Ground rule for structures
white can touched by material +candidate +load
Blue in bound for candidate but out of bound
for material + load however material and load
can be held in air by candidates
Red out of bound for all material +candidate
+load
› Rule of rigidity
Planks and balli can not be tied
Planks and balli can be kept one over the other
Planks/balli can be tied to structure
› Rule of Infinity
Start and finish line extend to infinity on either
side
Progressive group task/Half group task/Final Group task
/command task are based on principle of cantilever i.e.
one end is fixed and free end is supported by fulcrum
Hence look for how you can make cantilever
Only way to move is to walk on plank or balli
Challenge is to fix one end in such a way that it supports
the weight of the person
Take plank min your hand first as it is more stable
Look for place it can be supported
Having put plank/balli on fulcrum look for support for one
end
First obstacle
› It will generally be direct bridging
› Connect start line with first structure and connect first structure
with finish line
› It will be easy
› Use both rigid material together and go over one by one
› Drag the load on helping material being heavy
› Even if dissuaded use both plank and ballis
Second obstacle
› Idea will generally be simple cantilever shown from 2-10
› Entry will be narrow meaning lesser no of candidate can enter
simultaneously
› Hence taking lead and sustaining it is important
› If unable to enter at least keep giving idea
Third obstacle
› Entry will still be narrower allowing maximum of 2 -3
candidate in front
› Try and be in front
› Though idea will still remain cantilever but not
obvious and may have to use more resources
› May have to make/improvise cantilever as shown 8-
20
4th obstacle
› Very long and frustrating
› Normally groups don’t reach this stage
› Try and show all officer like qualities
Fulcrum for
lever
Be constructive member of the group
Try and lead the group
Support with ideas if someone else has taken
lead
Wait for all to cross over
Don’t give up keep trying
Persist with chosen path
Don’t criticize
Don’t shout
Don’t break rules
