Background
• 2002 – Proposed in the Bikeway and Pedestrian
   Master Plan
• 2004 – Prioritized by the Hike and Bike Task Force
   and adopted by City Council as a High Priority
• 2008 – Funding included in bond referendum
   approved by voters ($4.4 million)
• 2011 – Awarded contract to Halff Associates, Inc.
   to conduct a preliminary design study
• May 2012 – Route alternatives presented to Council
Preliminary Design Study
 Project Scope
 Research and evaluate existing and future
  conditions
 Identify and evaluate three (3) alternative
  routes
 Gather public input
 Develop construction cost estimate
 Identify preferred route

 December 3, 2011
   Stakeholder meeting with SpringBrook and Pebble Creek
    HOAs to hear specific concerns and desires
 January 23rd and 25th
   Present, discuss, and gather input on the three alternative
    alignments
   49 attendees at the meeting on the 23rd
   96 attendees at the meeting on the 25th

 March 19th
   Present and discuss the proposed preferred alignment
   59 attendees at the meeting

Original Route - Segment A
Land Dedication

 In April the SpringBrook HOA voted on a
  proposition to allow the HOA Board to negotiate
  with the City to dedicate 18 acres of common area
   170 votes were cast from a total of 196 Lot owners
   100 votes for the dedication
   70 votes against the dedication

 Some homeowners in the neighborhood
  strongly oppose the land dedication and the
  trail in the common area
Council Update

 May 24, 2012 staff update to Council
   Allow neighborhood and HOA several months to
    make progress toward addressing the issues
    related to the land dedication


 Staff does not feel the neighborhood and
  HOA are close to reaching a consensus on the
  alignment for Segment A
Recommended Route – Segment A

 Segment A (Eagle/Longmire/Barron)
   Reconstruct sidewalks less than 5-feet wide
   Address ADA issues
   Wayfinding signage
   Stripe bike lanes
   Provide benches or other trail related amenities
    when sufficient ROW is available
   Minimize impacts to landscaping, fences, and
    neighborhood signs inside the ROW
   Keep all improvements inside the existing ROW
    or existing public access easements
