UK Film Distribution For Our Film

UK FILM DISTRIBUTION
AND WHO WOULD DISTRIBUTE MY FILM
OUR FILM
 Our film is a low budget film by a small independent company that consists of
three people.
 We do not have the Hollywood budget so costumes, effects, content and the
such will be low key and whatever we can muster up.
 We cannot pay for masses of high publicity advertising or billboards across the
country.
 However other small films like ‘Monsters’ and ‘Bullet Boy’ have done well as
films even being low budget independent films.
 Our film would need a good UK distribution company that wont use up all our
budget and will give the film a chance.
VERTIGO FILMS
 Vertigo Films is a UK Film and Distribution company founded in 2002 by Allan
Niblo and James Richardson. The company’s mission is to create and
distribute commercially driven independent cinema.
 The Films span a range of genres and audience taste with work such as
Monsters, Street Dance 3D, The Horrid Henry Movie, The Sweeny and more.
 Vertigo Films did a great job of advertising the film ‘Monsters’ with a full
digital interactive advertising campaign that even got it distributed overseas
for a limited run in America. ‘Monsters’ went on to win lots of independent
film awards and even raise enough interest for a sequel.
DNA FILMS
 DNA Films is run by Andrew Macdonald and his producing partner Allon Reich
and is one of the UK’s most successful production companies. It is a small
company based in London and has worked on many cinema and TV releases.
 Notable works include Dredd 3D, Never Let Me Go, The Last King of Scotland,
Notes on a Scandal, 28 Weeks Later, 28 Days Later, Sunshine, The Beach,
Trainspotting, Shallow Grave to name a few.
 DNA Films worked wonders for the film ‘Trainspotting’. The film has been
ranked 10th by the British Film Institute in its list of Top 100 British films of
all time. The film flooded the market with postcards from the iconic UK and
Scotland scenes and an all British soundtrack all to stir up a storm that made
UK film history.
WHAT DO DISTRIBUTION COMPANIES DO?
 Distribution companies take on films that they feel will be successful and help
promote, market, budget, sell and distribute the film.
 They will handle marketing campaigns to drum up interest in the films
respective audiences.
 They will help with the DVD and Blu Ray release of the film.
 They distribute the film to cinemas and screenings nationally and
internationally
 Different companies are known for different reasons. Sometimes they are
known for the genre they like to distribute. Sometimes its new grossing or
small films. Others distribute according to where the film was made.
WHO WOULD DISTRIBUT OUR FILM?
 For our film, 'Zodiac' as its working title, we want a distribution company that
will be able to promote the film to teens and young adults who are into gritty,
crime, gory, thriller films.
 Personally I would choose Film 4 to distribute our film. They have a history
with “kitchen sink” dramas, which are normally films with some controversy
to them. Plus they are able to formulate good marketing strategies and have
shown they care about film audience not just the revenue they will make
from the film.
 To show that we were working with Film 4 and that they were distributing our
film, we would add their ident to the beginning of our film plus a mention in
the title sequence and credits.
