WHY MOST PEOPLE WILL NEVER BE GREAT AT GOAL SETTING • Because they never set goals or lack the motivation to take action. • Researchers found that only one in five Americans, who reach the age of 65, don’t depend on Social Security. • Some people who do depend on social security include high-paying professions like doctors and lawyers.
  3. 3. • Life is full of distractions, chaos and stress, leaving little or no time for most people to focus and plan their lives. • We work during the week and then spend our hard earned salary on the weekends.

Break the Habit and don’t be like others….. arriving into work on Monday morning, tired and stressed. feeling you need to look for another job, as you need more money to cover overspending. not stopping to plan or set goals, instead hitting the job sites looking for that ‘golden egg.’ It’s already in your hands! Note: Don’t skip this bit…..if you do, you’ll fail before you have even started. Why?.. you may ask yourself Your Beliefs

YOUR BELIEFS • Beliefs are important, they affect the way we think and behave. • Your behaviour depends on what you believe. • Everything you do or don’t do is based on the beliefs you hold about yourself and the world around you. • Beliefs help determine how you react to others' behaviour — if someone doesn’t say good morning, do you believe they are being rude? Ageism is companies is well documented YOUR BELIEFS In order to move forward you need to understand what you beliefs. If you want to change your career and if don’t believe you can. You need to try understand why you believe this. (you won’t move forward until you do!) If your belief is not based on anything solid, change the rules. Changing a rule, take time and effort. I would like to change from procrastination to being more action orientated DEFINING YOUR THOUGHTS FOR GOAL SETTING Start thinking about your goals, or things you would like to change? Think of the things you don’t like Examples of Values Accountability, Accuracy Achievement, Adventurousness Altruism, Ambition Assertiveness, Balance, Being the best Belonging, Boldness, Calmness Define a Value • the regard that something is held to deserve; the importance, worth, or usefulness of something: "your support is of great value" • "equipment is included up to a total value of £500“ asking price · monetary value principles or standards of behaviour; one's judgement of what is important in life: "they internalize their parents' rules and values" • the numerical amount denoted by an algebraic term; a magnitude, quantity, or number: "the mean value of x"
  12. 12. Situtation – where was I? What was I doing? Who was I with? Feelings NAT – Negative Automatic Thoughts – rate 0 to 100 Behaviour – What did I do? Feelings Thoughts Alternation thoughts – rate 0 to 100 How do you feel now? INDENTIFYING NEGATIVE THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS We all have negative thoughts and feelings. In this exercise I want you to look at your negative thoughts and feeling and try and understand. A. Do you know the root cause of the your negative thoughts or feelings? B. Do you know they affect your behaviour? • In this exercise I am looking at improving the way you handle negative aspects in your life and what you can do to change this. This helps greatly with confidence and improve resilience. • Under each heading make notes. • Negative thoughts and feeling can have a profound effect on all aspects of your life.

They don’t need to be specific at this stage. Complete the next 2 columns. What you are doing here is trying to understand what it is you want and what are the upsides and downsides of that need.GOALS
  16. 16. Goal Specific Measurable Attainable Realistic Time-Limited SMART? IS IT REALLY A GOAL? This section/worksheet is straight forward. Write in your goal, then complete the remaining sections. There is one slight difference to this form. The last box asks you to be honest with yourself and answer ‘YES or NO’ – Is it really a SMART GOAL.GOALS
  17. 17. BEFORE MOVING ON…… Now you have written down your goals and know they are achievable. But, before moving on there are a few point I would like to raise. • Note your skills, knowledge and experience • Try out your new goal to see if you enjoy it – you may want to do presentations to further your career, for example. • Do your research! Talk to people and even get a mentor or coach.
  18. 18. POLISH SECTION SUMMARY Author of Psycho Cybernetics, Dr. Maxwell Maltz, says that once you set a goal your mind becomes more focused. Focusing will open your mind up to opportunities you may have normally missed. Your mind makes corrections so that you can stay on target. The more specific the goal is, the better the corrections are and more opportunities appear.

  20. 20. PLANNING Nothing changes if you don’t write it down. Break goals into smaller chunks Monitor progress, perhaps use a project planning tools. Get an accountability buddy. Remember – Goals are flexible and will change. Know when to change direction
  21. 21. PER-FECT Summary This bit is down to you, the most important piece of advice I can give you is to TAKE ACTION and HAVE FUN. Set goals that inspire you, but that are also realistic and achievable. Set a series of goals so that you are going step-by-step. That way, it easier to adjust them as needed.
