Technology for regenerative indoor
environment ensuring well-being and health
thanks to high indoor environmental quality
- hygro-thermal comfort
- visual comfort and pleasant ambiance
- indoor soundscape
- indoor air quality
minimizing impact and use of resources(or
regenerating?) in the building life cycles
- raw materials
- energy
- water
- emissions

Guidelines for practitioners on how to approach
regenerative building
- driver → regenerative indoor environment
- impact → social and environmental effects
- example of solution-sets in the building domain
- case studies
Regenerative indoor environment ensures:
- well-being
- health

Guidelines for practitioners on how to approach
regenerative building
A framework to evaluate whether a technology solution-
set may be used within a regenerative project, considering
three temporal phases: production, building in use
(operation), and end-of-cycle.
WG4 Expected results
A regenerative design process

Task 4.1 - Definition of the evidence-based framework,
cases studies, and research outlook
Task 4.1 a: Technology related parameters that make an
indoor environment regenerative
• KPIs for a regenerative indoor environment
• Benchmarks for the restorative parameters for different
building types and uses.
• Evaluation methodologies: measurements and
calculation
WG4 Tasks and activities

Task 4.1 - Definition of the evidence-based framework,
cases studies, and research outlook
Task 4.1 b: influence of the climatic, cultural and social
context on the regenerative parameters
• Parametric boundary conditions

Task 4.1 - Definition of the evidence-based framework,
cases studies, and research outlook
Task 4.1 c: Solution-sets for a regenerative indoor
environment. Technology approach enabling a building to
achieve the target defined in the activity “T4.1a”.
The solution-sets are in line with the principles of a
regenerative design, and hence fit within the developed
framework, and, when available, there is evidence from
case studies to foster their use. As part of this activity,
standard tender specifications for restorative projects are
defined.

Task 4.1 - Definition of the evidence-based framework,
cases studies, and research outlook
Task 4.1 d: Environmental and social impact, both at local
and global level of the solution sets
• Definition of different parameters for the evaluation,
benchmarks and targets
• Evaluation methods
WG4 Tasks and activities

Horizon 2020
Task 4.1 - Definition of the evidence-based framework,
cases studies, and research outlook
Task 4.1 e: monitoring of the regenerative indoor
environment.
• Building performance data collection and elaboration
• Post Occupancy Evaluation (POE) surveys from relevant
protocols such as WELL are evaluated.

Horizon 2020
Task 4.1 - Definition of the evidence-based framework,
cases studies, and research outlook
Task 4.1 f: Analysis of the case studies and refinement of
the methodologies
A number of selected case studies are collected and
analyzed by using the developed framework. That shows
how systems have been used in existing regenerative
projects, and the extent to which they have been
successful.

Task 4.1 g: Strategic RTD agenda
A strategic RTD agenda is drawn to set the basis for future
research, and hence to identify the next steps.

Task 4.2 - Increasing awareness
This is achieved by means of short-term scientific missions
(STSMs). These should support and ease the activities
described in Task 4.1.

Task 4.3 - Mentoring of practitioners and professionals
We organize a training school, coordinated by Eurac
Research, in Bolzano, taking advantage of the
achievements of Task 4.1 and 4.2.

Task 4.4 - Dissemination
Planning and implementation of dissemination of the
WG4 results, including conference and journal papers, but
also documents for practitioners such as guidelines, atlas
of solutions, standard tender specifications, and POE
surveys.
