Editor's Notes
BBC Election Projection 2015
CT worked through the night to display the General Election 2015 exit poll results.
Using the London Broadcasting House as a canvas, the team set up nine Panasonic DZ21K projectors in three separate locations; six in two local hotels and three at Broadcasting House.
All nine projectors were connected by a 72 core fibre attached to a catenary wire. With the installation of this wire requiring the local roads to be closed off and such a large area being involved, the set-up proved a challenge but delivered impressive results.
The live data captured from the BBC’s VIS engine was pulled directly into CT’s Photon media server, with the onsite team translating it into the visual graphics seen on the building.

Toyota ERM – Berlin 2014
The meeting showcased the pioneering visual experience of projected content onto moving screens. Below these large screens, audience seating spanned the length of both sides of the hangar, where each audience member was able to watch doubles-sided screen content perfectly timed with carefully choreographed Toyota vehicles moving along the length of the catwalk beneath.
Sixteen large screens moved above the central catwalk where speakers announced new products and concepts and cars were displayed and cleverly choreographed to move along the catwalk.

Hoover Dam Projection – 2015
One of the top 10 engineering marvels of the world that sits high above the Colorado River on the border of Arizona and Nevada, the chosen location for Freightliner to launch their new ground breaking autonomous truck, the Freightliner Infinite Inspiration.
Presented in front of a live audience perched high above on the Dam's observation deck, the event was also streamed to millions around the globe.
OSK Marketing and Communications out of New York created "the big idea" and brought in NY production management specialists SIAM Productions to produce the overall event. Creative Technology (CT) was consequently contracted to help deliver the spectacular reveal.
The challenges were enormous; the 420,000 square feet surface had a number of different angles of curves to it and was an incredible 2,500 feet away from the projection tower.
60 projectors between 20,000 and 26,000 lumens each were synchronized to create a single seamless image with a resolution of 4592 x 2048 pixels on the dam half a mile away.
A complex projector setup, the output of the projectors generated an incredible 1.17 million lumens; equivalent to the output of more than 1,400 60-watt household light bulbs and breaking an official Guinness World record among projections!
Used as the US's largest ever projection screen, the project required months of planning, preparation and set up but CT's experience at video projection mapping and the use of specialized software to warp a projected image onto irregularly shaped screens, rendered the curved wall of the Dam a perfect surface for this type of technology.
Sensation Dubai
CT supplied the special outdoor edition of Source of Light; the first Sensation to be held in the Middle East.
The popular Sensation shows have been enjoyed by millions of visitors in 32 countries across the world.
The electronic dance events have previously always been held indoors but the first one in the Middle East has also marked the first outdoor show. This was held at Meydan Racecourse.
CT supplied the spectacular projection which brought the four faces rigged along the stage to life. Throughout the show the faces were used to display logos, messages and various faces.
These effects were created using four pairs of Panasonic PTDZ21K projectors.
CT also rigged three remote POV cameras to the DJ’s desk and another pair of Panasonic projectors was used at the main entrance to project the Sensation logo on to the building.
Face Britain 2012
Face Britain, a unique project created by The Prince’s Foundation for Children and the Arts to provide a platform to celebrate the nation’s children and young people in the run up to HM The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the London Olympics and Paralympic Games.
The first ever projection onto Buckingham Palace’s façade
CT provided 26 projectors to enable thousands of self-portraits by children from across the UK to create a montage image of HM The Queen that will be projected over the frontage of the Palace.
The palace is broken-up into ten projected areas; five across the top half and five across the bottom, blended to make one seamless image.
The two portrait screens, picture frames left and right are another two projected images.
8 x FLM 20’s, 2 x R20+s overlayed with 8 x Panasonic PT-D10000s and 4 x DZ110s with the two picture frames being doubled portrait pairs of PT-D10000s have been provided to achieve the required result.
The projectors are driven by 12 main and 12 back-up Watchout channels, and utilised over 3500 metres of fibre. Managing the entire project, from scaffolding towers to portaloos, CT have provided over £200,000 of charitable contribution in hardware.
Strictly Come Dancing
The iconic art deco-inspired theme is visualised using two curved proscenium arches with CT’s MiTrix LED display and Flyer LED back screens and Side Arch screens within the set.
The studio floor comes alive with projected images using six Panasonic PT-DS20K Projectors, enabling each dance performance to be perfectly synchronised with different visual themes.
Now in CT’s fifth year of providing equipment and services to the show, Project Manager, Nic Maag, is heading up the operation with his dedicated team.
Clusters of Light – 2014
Having only six months to produce a stunning musical extravaganza telling the story of the Prophet Muhammad, creating the 90 minute production Clusters of Light presented a challenge for international creative project company Multiple Spinifex.
With the main protagonist unable to appear on stage in human form as it would go against Islamic convention, the Prophet Muhammad is represented by lighting effects and visual content in this ground breaking production that chronicles his birth, the journey to Mecca and the beginning of Islam.
Creative Technology (CT) was brought in to provide the specialist projection, content management and signal distribution expertise required.
25 x Panasonic DZ21K projectors, each driven by a channel of VYV’s Photon using CT’s newest S10 high specification media servers, covered a total projected area in excess of 1,750m².
This encompassed the stage surface, upstage rear wall cyc and all four vertical faces of a tracking and rotating 10 tonne 7m x 9m x 10m scenic cube.
All signal feeds were 1920 x 1080 60p HDSDi 3G and distributed over a bi-directional fibre network with 100% redundancy.
Projector alignment via Photon, particularly for the tracking and rotating cube, was maintained and managed using eight OptiTrack motion capture IR cameras.
Commissioned by His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, ruler of Sharjah, this show was produced to celebrate the Emirate of Sharjah being named the cultural capital of the Islamic world for 2014. A new open-air amphitheatre with an audience capacity of 4,500 was built on Al Majaz Island in a lagoon in downtown Sharjah especially for Clusters of Light.

The night prior to the UEFA Champions League 2012 final, NuFormer performed another impressive 3D video mapping projection in Munich, Germany during the Heineken VIP event. In the complete darkness, the façade of the Schleissheim Palace turned into a massive canvas for NuFormer’s video mapping that showed striking video footage from the last played Champions League games and all its famous players. Gradually the show expanded to enlighten the full 60-meter width of the façade. The 3D video mapping projection ended with a blast of ‘superlative’ animations and Champions League peak moments to prepare the crowd for what was still to come the following night during the final game.
Most of the video footage was shot during games played in the same tournament just weeks and in some cases days prior to the event and therefore supplied to NuFormer very shortly before the video mapping projection had to take place. This last-minute merge of 3D artwork as well as the editing of the footage was a real challenge due to the time constraint.
Creative content production by NuFormer. Script and storyboard design by NuFormer, in close cooperation with TWBA/United State of Fans. Technical production by CT Holland.
