The statement part of the issue is kind of controversial because it seems to imply that L1 and L2 acquisition can be thought of as similar. Also, most of the myths in SLA were created because L1 assumptions were borrowed and applied to L2. So, my suggestion is to delete the statement and stay within L1 acquisition only in the discussion (without trying to build bridges between L1 and L2 theoretically, at this point). Discussing briefly which L1 theory(s) seems most believable is a great way of bring them all together.
