What I’m going to talk to you about…
My Career so far…
Do you know where you are aiming for?
My top 5 tips on how to stand out & Move up
Your Action Plan
Scholarly publishing needs innovators, it is evolving rapidly to meet the needs of scholars
Be flexible
Responsive
Be Open
And all around – understand what all your colleagues do and all the departments do. How do they do it
Be a sponge and absorb as much as you can this will also help you develop your relationship building skills and when you get to the top, you’ll have a much clearer idea of what everyone is doing in the organisation
Take on as much work as you can off your boss to make their lives easier, make your department the most efficient and profitable it can be. You will get praise, the department will get noticed and therefore all promoted.
Don’t always be a follower
Always go for a job you don’t think you can do 100%. If you do you will never move up and forward Talk about your achivements
Write down a plan of action of where you want to be and what this would mean to you. Without a plan you will not be focussed and so naturally not climb any ladder
Know where you want to get to in 5 – 10 years time
Know what your ultimate job is and why
Understand what you need to learn and do to get there
Write it down and make sure you look at your plan every time you make a decision in your career
