BACKGROUND/PURPOSE
 The Registrar’s office was tasked with setting up and
implementing an online software system for curriculum
management.
 A group consisting of the respective college deans and a
faculty member in addition to the staff from the registrars
office.
 Fast Forward to Implementation
 4 people maybe 5 trained on the entire system, 2 Faculty
& 2 Staff members responsible for training the campus of
100+ faculty.
Tuesday, April 7, 2020
BACKGROUND/PURPOSE
 We identified a critical need to be able to train faculty on
the implementation and use of Curriculog Online
Curriculum Management System.
 How can we train Faculty & Staff Efficiently (Without tying
up time & resources)?
 How can we train our Faculty & Staff Effectively (thorough
coverage of the material, information retention and
provide assistive resources)?

GENERAL
TAKEAWAYS
If you want to provide faculty and staff
training using D2L consider the following:
 Include D2L training as a central component across your
existing faculty and staff technology-training curriculum.
 Identify personnel who can provide accessibility "help
desk" support.
Tuesday, April 7, 2020
VOLUNTARY
TRAINING
Consider those things that help provide
motivation for them to do so.
 Consider incentivizing D2L training
 Often times recognition, or an award--especially if it
comes with some monetary incentive.
 Incorporate D2LTraining & proficiency as a component of
Promotion andTenure.

MANDATORY
TRAINING
If you will require mandatory training for all
your faculty and/or staff consider the
following:
 What are the mechanisms on your campus for mandatory
training? Look to the successes and the challenges of a
mandatory approach.
 Has mandated training been done before on your
campus?
 Will this approach achieve your intended result?

COVID-19 RESOURCES
UNIVERSITY SYSTEM OF
GEORGIA
Tuesday, April 7, 2020
 We understand that some students and faculty may have
challenges accessing the Internet from their homes and may not
always be able to get to areas with Wi-Fi. We suggest some of the
following options.
 The FCC has asked companies to work with Americans impacted
by COVID-19 to help provide them with Internet access. Students
and faculty may be able to access free Internet through service
providers available in their area. Companies are also pledging to
keep public Wi-Fi hot-spots open for any American who needs
them. Additionally, some cell phone companies are extending
unlimited data plans to existing customers for no additional
charge.
COVID-19 RESOURCES
 FCC agreement stating that providers will waive late fees, not
cutoff service for lack of payment, and open hot-spots.
 Comcast COVID-19 response: offers freeWi-Fi for 2 months to
low income families plus all Xfinity hot-spots are free to the
public during this time.
 Charter Free Internet Offer for 2 Months
 AT&T COVID-19 response: offers open hot-spots, unlimited data
to existing customers, and $10/month plans to low income
families.
 Verizon COVID-19 response: no special offers, but following the
FCC agreement.
Tuesday, April 7, 2020
COVID-19 RESOURCES
 Sprint COVID-19 response: follows FCC agreement, provides
unlimited data to existing customers, and, startingTuesday,
3/17/2020, will allow all handsets to enable hot-spots for 60 days at
no extra charge.
 T-Mobile COVID-19 response: follows FCC agreement, plus
unlimited data to existing customers, and, coming soon, will allow
all handsets to enable hot-spots for 60 days at no extra charge (I
expect others will follow).
 Phone hot-spot. If you have a cell phone and data plan with
Internet access, in some instances, your phone can be used as a
hot-spot to share data with other devices such as a desktop,
laptop, or iPad.
Tuesday, April 7, 2020
COVID-19 RESOURCES
 USG Institutions: Consider developing campusWi-Fi “Parking Lot
Hot-Spots” for students and faculty with broadband connectivity
issues. To help mitigate low bandwidth/access issues, consider
designating “Parking Lot Hot-Spots” in one or more locations on
the campus. Similar to designated cell phone parking lots at
airports, these would be zones where students and faculty can
come to campus, park their cars, and access campus-based high-
speed broadband, in isolation, in their own automobiles. This will
necessitate a strong outdoorWi-Fi signal. Leadership and ITS
should consider easy guest network access as well, in case their
campus may be the closest location for students or faculty from
another USG institution.

  • 25. COVID-19 RESOURCES UNIVERSITY SYSTEM OF GEORGIA Tuesday, April 7, 2020  We understand that some students and faculty may have challenges accessing the Internet from their homes and may not always be able to get to areas with Wi-Fi. We suggest some of the following options.  The FCC has asked companies to work with Americans impacted by COVID-19 to help provide them with Internet access. Students and faculty may be able to access free Internet through service providers available in their area. Companies are also pledging to keep public Wi-Fi hot-spots open for any American who needs them. Additionally, some cell phone companies are extending unlimited data plans to existing customers for no additional charge.
  • 26. COVID-19 RESOURCES  FCC agreement stating that providers will waive late fees, not cutoff service for lack of payment, and open hot-spots.  Comcast COVID-19 response: offers freeWi-Fi for 2 months to low income families plus all Xfinity hot-spots are free to the public during this time.  Charter Free Internet Offer for 2 Months  AT&T COVID-19 response: offers open hot-spots, unlimited data to existing customers, and $10/month plans to low income families.  Verizon COVID-19 response: no special offers, but following the FCC agreement. Tuesday, April 7, 2020
  • 27. COVID-19 RESOURCES  Sprint COVID-19 response: follows FCC agreement, provides unlimited data to existing customers, and, startingTuesday, 3/17/2020, will allow all handsets to enable hot-spots for 60 days at no extra charge.  T-Mobile COVID-19 response: follows FCC agreement, plus unlimited data to existing customers, and, coming soon, will allow all handsets to enable hot-spots for 60 days at no extra charge (I expect others will follow).  Phone hot-spot. If you have a cell phone and data plan with Internet access, in some instances, your phone can be used as a hot-spot to share data with other devices such as a desktop, laptop, or iPad. Tuesday, April 7, 2020
  • 28. COVID-19 RESOURCES  USG Institutions: Consider developing campusWi-Fi “Parking Lot Hot-Spots” for students and faculty with broadband connectivity issues. To help mitigate low bandwidth/access issues, consider designating “Parking Lot Hot-Spots” in one or more locations on the campus. Similar to designated cell phone parking lots at airports, these would be zones where students and faculty can come to campus, park their cars, and access campus-based high- speed broadband, in isolation, in their own automobiles. This will necessitate a strong outdoorWi-Fi signal. Leadership and ITS should consider easy guest network access as well, in case their campus may be the closest location for students or faculty from another USG institution. Tuesday, April 7, 2020
