You may have heard people using terms like the cloud, cloud computing, or cloud storage. But what exactly is the cloud?
Simply put, the cloud is the Internet—more specifically, it's all of the things you can access remotely over the Internet. When something is in the cloud, it means it's stored on Internet servers instead of your computer's hard drive.
Some of the main reasons to use the cloud are convenience and reliability. For example, if you've ever used a web-based email service, such as Gmail or Yahoo! Mail, you've already used the cloud. All of the emails in a web-based service are stored on servers rather than on your computer's hard drive. This means you can access your email from any computer with an Internet connection. It also means you'll be able to recover your emails if something happens to your computer
AWS was the first to offer cloud computing infrastructure as a service in 2008 and has never looked back.For now, AWS is becoming everything from a key AI and machine learning platform to call center engine to edge compute enabler.
AWS was the early leader in public cloud computing and has become a major player in AI, database, machine learning and serverless deployments.

Azure offers hundreds of services within various categories including AI + Machine Learning, Analytics, Blockchain, Compute, Containers, Databases, Developer Tools,
Microsoft’s mixed reality technology (products for HoloLens) is also available in the Azure cloud.

Microsoft’s TFS and VSTS are now available in azure via Azure DevOps.

As of 2020, over 68% of global enterprises use at least one public cloud platform for their everyday business operations.

As the number of businesses migrating to the cloud continues to rise, cloud computing is set to become an over $330 billion industry by 2022 according to Indeed’s recent study.

If you’re already a developer, you’re already halfway there. Going from software development to cloud engineering is only a slight pivot in terms of skills. In fact, many job offerings have overlaps between software and the cloud. If you are proficient in Java, Python, or SQL, you already fit a large portion of the hiring requirements for this position.
This spike in demand has led to some very appealing salaries. According to Glassdoor’s most recent survey, Cloud Engineers across the industry make on average nearly $130k per year, about $40k more than Senior Software Developers.

Some cloud engineers work with large companies on security, storage, and accessibility, while others improve the daily lives of day-to-day people. In fact, cloud engineers are a huge contributor to the ease and accessibility of work-from-home lockdowns, making our world safer for people of diverse lifestyles.
