Hypothesis and Aim
The eubiotic blend inclusion had no significant effect on
weight gain and feed intake, but tended to improve feed
conversion ratio (P < 0.10) over the entire life span of the
birds (1.443 vs. 1.406).
The number of ileal and caecal Lactobacillus spp., E. coli,
Bacteroides/Prevotella/Porphyromonas group, Clostridium
clusters I, IV and XIVa, and Salmonella spp. in the eubiotics
group were not different from the control group.
Study design:
A randomized complete block design:
o In total 200 male and 200 female broiler chicks (Cobb 500)
o Two treatments:
• A control standard diet without CRINA® Poultry Plus
• A diet supplemented with CRINA® Poultry Plus
(300 mg/kg diet)
• 100 males and 100 females per treatment
• Five replicates per treatment/gender and
20 birds per replicate
Parameters:
o Performance variables were determined weekly
o Bacterial cell numbers in the ileum and caecum were
analyzed at d 21
o A quantitative PCR (qPCR) determination was carried
out for
• Escherichia coli spp.
• Lactobacilli spp.
• Bacteroides/Prevotella/Porphyromonas group
• Clostridium clusters I
• Clostridium clusters IV
• Clostridium clusters XIVa
• Salmonella spp.
The different potential interactive effects of the essential oils present in the eubiotic blend were supposed to be responsible for the
not entirely consistent response. The results of this study indicate that adding CRINA® Poultry Plus to broiler diets has a potential
to improve performance of broiler chickens, however, more work including tests under practical conditions is required.

Essential oils have shown promising results on productive
performance, digestibility of nutrients and intestinal microbiota in
broiler chickens.
The performance effects are likely to be dependent on the
quality and quantity of essential oils used in each study.
The variation in responses may although be associated with the
type of essential oils and their potential synergistic, additive or
counteractive effects.
Other factors that may affect the response of performance
parameters to the supplementation of essential oils, are the
hygienic and health condition and the type of ingredients used in
the diets.
