This will be interactive – lots of call outs and don’t like nod or start looking out the window or BOOM, I will get you
I want you full attention and maybe you can set an INTENTION- what do you want from this session?

What is attitude? Psychological state or hypothetical construct regarding how positive or negative evaluation of yourself, of people and objects for both INDIVIDUAL, GROUP and SOCIETY - IT IS WHAT YOU FEEL, IT IS HOW YOU LOOK AT THE WORLD, IT EFFECTS EVERYTHING YOU DO AND IT CAN BE ARGUED THAT IT is one of the most important aspects of your life
2. It impacts everything we do
3. Attitudes are judgments and ways we look at ourselves, our friends and our family
4. Attitudes are emotional response that expresses an individual's degree of preference
5. Unlike personality, attitudes are expected to change as a function of experience.
6. Attitudes can be changed through persuasion and we should understand attitude change as a response to communication
7. According to scientists, it is the single most important factor is how you view things
Attitude has very little to do with your skills, education, background, location, geography, relationship or job
Positive Attitude is a skill that you can learn like algebra or riding a bike

So this is your brain and your brain is a pretty complex organ- what does your brain do exactly- runs your body, keeps you alive, it is also determine what & how you think
Your brain is busy, doing a lot of stuff, it must process millions of thoughts ideas, stimuli every minute, your brain gets so much stimuli that it has to pick and choose which to glob on to – to manage all the stimuli the science shows that it naturally gravitates to the stimuli that it is fed most consistenently
WOOHHHH, pause for thoughtful self expression
Let me say that again - your brain processes millions of bits of information every minute> different senses, touch, taste, sound, site and thoughts
But there is so much stuff going on that your brain is not particularly good at distinguishing between them all
YOUR BRAIN will scientifically focus on the stimuli that it sees most consistently REAL or IMAGINED AND IT CAN’T DIFFERENTIATE
If I put lots of positive thoughts into my brain, over and over, it has a significant impact- how much impact? A ton

You are responsible for your attitude, not your parents, siblings, boss, roomate or co-workers
You get to make a decision every minute of every day if you are going to have a good one or a bad attitude
No one can effect your attitude unless you let them THIS IS AN IMPORTANT ONE- two strategies – head like a balloon & the heavy duty plastic bubble
Most people agree a good attitude is a better than a bad one- in life, relationships and business
IF YOU HAVE A BAD ATTITUDE, THERE ARE ONLY A FEW REASONS WHY
You don’t know any different; you have lived around pessimists all your life
You haven’t learned the skills to overcome your pessimism
You LIKE IT, you secretly like to be miserable, you wallow in self pity and you subconsciously refuse to be happy and you just want to be a miserable sun of a bitch for your entire life
There are some people who have mental deficiencies in these areas-
2 MIN | 16 MIN
It means that you can be as happy as you want – you can learn to be happy and its easier than Ruby on Rails –
Martin Seligman did all the scientific research that ensures that I am not spouting crazy talk Columbia PhD, who reviewed years of research & defined mindsets of O & P
Optimists feel that defeat is a temporary setback, not necessarily their fault, they are unfazed by what happens, confronted by a bad situation they use it as a challenge to try harder
A pessimist is someone who is thinking of misfortune in different ways, the core of pessimism is helplessness, nothing you choose will effect what you do
And of course we have already shown that this is scientifically inaccurate Seligman proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that optimists - better in school & college, work, sports, elected more often, elected more often, heath is unusually good, age well and live longer
Pessimists- gave up more easily and get depressed more often, have more health problems, perform at a lower level and of course have to live with their sorry asses 24 hours a day - So who is responsible for your attitude

But this lady is good for my presentation> there are some serious positive vibes there baby, so I thought I would include her

OK, enough futzing around- lets get to the good stuff
How many people in this room are their own best cheerleader?
What does that mean anyway?
Well, what would it be like to have a whole group of cheerleaders who were dressed in those funny cheerleader outfits that said
Go, Michael, Go or Go, Rachael Go, or Go, Dharmesh Go
And helped you get happy when you were down, celebrate your successes & try to make you the happiest person you could be?
So if you think that would be a good thing > give me the thumbs up
I have 5 Steps to be your own best cheerleader
It’s fun to be a cheerleader –

Let me rant about negativity for a second because it’s an important component of your life
One of the ways to be your own best cheerleader is to be ahead in the game – 60-0 and there are some people you know who are like that
Here is the thing- in most cases, you get to surround yourself with the people you want to hang with and you get to choose (to a certain extent)
One thing I will tell you: NO ONE can make you feel bad unless you let them – IT IS ALWAYS YOUR CHOICE –
You have the choice to avoid contact, you have the choice to disregard their feedback, you have the choice to not get pissed & anticipate their negativity and then you have the choice to move on- except with your family- and in that case – there are still ways to help- I talked about two options in my last talk- do you guys remember them
Do you remember them? prep and put yourself in a bubble, the amazing elastic head
4 MIN | 30 MIN
S1: Decide you want to be your own best cheerleader and commit to the program. It’s not an 8 step program and it is pretty easy, but you have to decide
If you don’t want to BYOBC –as long as you know 3 things. A. You have a choice B. You have the skills C. Its fun
S2: This is what I found when I did my second HubTalk that there is a science – Learned Optimism & X and your brain doesn’t know the difference
You receive 9B stimuli to your brain every hour- your brain can’t differentiate between what is actually happening & what isn’t
What does it do – it internalizes in the information that it see’s most frequently – so it is important that you decide that you want to be positive – or a cheerleader for yourself
S3: Is remove the negative stuff- get rid of I should have, I missed that, if I had only done this differently, I missed this opp
S4: SSP – what is that? I clipped this from Katharine Derum – when she did something she put it in a file – SSP file in her mail –all the great stuff she did
Emails from customers, screen shots of cool dings or wild code snippets if you are developer – so you can whip it out whenever you need
ALSO PICTURE BOOKS- puppies, friends, family, wild week ends, craft beers, tropical islands
ALSO PLAY lists – your favorite music that makes you feel happy – not the Smiths or the Cure but whatever makes you smile
ALSO people = you ever notice that some people make you happy – find those people – have them on speed dial –
S5 – start living the dream

We are what we put in our relationships
Many really well meaning people treat their families like shit?
Why? I have seen it a lot, my guess is three things 1. don’t have good role models 2. they are with them all the time, so you see them at their groggiest, their sickest, when they are tired, when they are most vulnerable 3. they don’t understand the impact it has on your son, daughter, wife, husband
The GREATEST THING YOU CAN TELL SOMEONE IS “ YOU FUCKING KILLED THAT REPORT ? Are you kidding me? That was awesome!’
Mark Roberge is really good at that. Worked for Mark for 7 years, we had three fights in seven years- for the rest of my life I will do anything
He was a great cheerleader all the time-

S1: Decide you want to be the greatest boyfriend ever,
S2: I always say this is my beautiful wife Amy. 1. its true, 2. its how I feel 3. it gets attention 4. I think she likes it
I wanted to be married to a incredibly positive, beautiful, loving young lady so I decided to do my part. I don’t miss any chances to reinforce that.
S3: Be present and in the moment with your family- the reason we spend 80 hours a week at this place is so we can work with our friends family
S4: Come backers
S5: Be kind, to yourself, to the people you know, to

Two pieces of great advice after being married for 23 years
No matter who you are, who you are with, regardless of anything, you serve yourself well if you are kind
no matter what happens in the future, there is usually a reason why you are hanging out with this person, even if they leave tomorrow it is likely they will be in your life and if you can make sure that you are equiting yourself with kindness you are going to be in good shape
Dan Sally reminded me that tech in Boston, the marketing intern who is sitting next to you, may be the next CMO of Facebook in 10 years, so it is in your vested interest as well
Plus its nicer and helps your attitude
Second piece of advice on Relationship attitude that I learned after a $10,000 in couples therapy, so the people who haven’t put in your $ buck up guys great phrase
When someone is giving you a hard time and being very aggressive about a situation or problem you look at them, low in your voicebox “Are you blaming me?”
Wow, discussed that with hundreds of folks at a magic phrase

What do you do with someone who has a bad attitude?
How do you know it when you see it, feel it, hear it?
If you don’t have to see the person every day you can just ignore them;
Amy and I have the six month list, people who are in our life that have negative energy and we run in the same circles but they are a drag, so we just laugh
They are doing there best to be miserable and we turn it into a joke.
Talk with the person about it.
How are you doing?
Everything ok?
Anything I can do to help?
Do they want to change it?
Do they want help to change it?
What type of help do they need?
Do you have to put up with it?

The reason I do this presentation to as many people as I can is because it has an amazing impact – a real impact on the way people think, act and give back

This is Leroy, he is my mascot, this kid shows up on the internet more than cat video’s
I like to put him in my cheerleader presentation because he makes me smile – every time – he closes out and leaves my audience happier than a pothead in Colorado
