best and worst drivers? Financial tech firm SmartAsset has created a paradigm,
compiling statistics from the Insurance Research Council (IRC), Federal Highway
Administration (FHA) and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
(NHTSA) to analyze factors contributing to roadway accidents and fatalities. They
have compiled a report listing the worst states in which to drive. Factors include:

In a survey of the state of driving in the
United States, The National Safety
Council compiled a series of indicators
that show the progress individual states
have made in pursuit of safer driving.
Overall, Texas has made the most
progress toward safety; Montana, the
least. Texas still leans towards the
bottom of the list at 29.
5. NSC Texas Road Safety Progress
The NSC gives each state a
grade and an on/off track rating
for safety measures. The rating
indicates the progress states have
made toward overall safety and
in several different categories.
Overall, Texas received a “C”
grade.

in 16 states, primarily caused by
distracted driving, excessive speeds
and driving under the influence.
