Off-Field Official
The on-field officals
• Each game has three on-field officals and one off-field official
• The fourth ‘off-field’ official will be discussed in the next
section
• One umpire is designated the Head Official
• In case of a dispute the decision of the Head Official is final
• Umpires are usually designated as Head Umpire, U2 and U3
• Basically, the three on field officals alway try to form a triangle
around play/the ball
• More on that in the section ‘Positioning’

3. On-Field Officials
Off-Field Official
Authority
• In World Lacrosse games:
• Authority of officials starts with their appearance on the field
• Authority ends upon completion of the game (final whistle)
• In the Dutch league:
• Authority of officials starts with their appearance on the field
• Authority ends when both teams or the officals leave the
field
• In the Dutch league it is possible to penalize a player after the final
whistle
• Example: card(s) for fighting or foul language during the post
game talks

Uniform
• Each official must wear the following uniform:
• A shirt with a one inch black and white vertical stripe
• Black shorts/pants/skirt
• Black socks
• Black hat or visor
• Black shoes
• Each official must carry the following accessories:
• Whistle (Fox 40 – preferably black)
• Yellow and red card
• Yellow flag
• Score card and pencil
• Coin

Uniform
• For an NLB level 0 or 1 umpire the following items are required:
• A shirt with a one inch black and white vertical stripe
• Black shorts/pants/skirt
• Black socks
• Whistle (Fox 40)
• Yellow and red cards
• Yellow flag
• If a hat/visor is worn it must be black
• No team colors / logos anywhere on the uniform
• Officiating becomes a lot easier when you look and act the part!
