Mike Parkinson, author of Billion Dollar Graphics, presented at ATD2015 in Orlando, FL, sharing a number of tips on how to create infographics.
At the end of the session, he challenged attendees to rough up an infographic design based on the tips from the session.
I was happy when Mike chose my design - a tree representing the growth from initial tips to finished design - as the best, so I was inspired to finish my work.
Using Canva's free tool and graphics, I created the infographic you see here. Enjoy!

6 Easy Steps to Create a Great Infographic
1. PROVE
Use data that supports
your message and any
conclusions. This data
should be persuasive,
believable, and include
citations to show validity.
6 EASY STEPS
TO CREATE A GREAT
INFOGRAPHIC
AUDIENCE
First, determine your
target audience for the
infographic. This will help
you decide what info
should - and should not -
be included.
MESSAGE
What do you want to say?
Your infographic should
be relevant to your
audience, and have a clear
conclusion, such as a
recommendation.
CHUNK
Break up your content
into easy-to-consume
segments, making it
easier to organize and
present clear points.
REASSEMBLE
Put your chunks of info
in a logical order and
structure that's easy for
your reader to follow.
VISUALIZE
Use visual symbols,
icons, and metaphors to
represent types of
information, offer
comparisons, and
explain processes.
You can create great
infographics too!
However, before you dive
into your design, you
must plan your content.
At a recent conference,
Mike Parkinson,
author of

audience to create a rough infographic based on the
6 points he presented. I was honored when he chose
mine as the best, and was inspired to finish the job.
