LEARNING MANAGEMENT
SYSTEM
INTRODUCTION
 A Learning Management System is a type of software that
houses training material in a variety of forms, (videos,
PDFs, games, and tracks) that employees are learning over
time.
II.OBJECTIVES
 This report aims to discuss the definition, importance, uses, and relevance of
LMS.
 What is the lesson that should understand of the student about LMS.
 At the end of the lesson, students are expected to be familiar with using LMS
What is Learning Management System
 A Learning Management System (LMS) is an online integrated
software used for creating, delivering, tracking, and reporting
educational courses and outcomes. It can be used to support
traditional face-to-face instruction, as well as blended/hybrid
and distance learning environments. Schools use LMS software
to plan, implement, facilitate, assess, and monitor student
learning. All of these activities are conducted behind a virtual
wall that provides a measure of authentication, security, and
privacy.
The LMS helps schools maintain the integrity of their
educational programs by enabling educators to effectively and
efficiently develop courses, deliver instruction, facilitate
communication, foster collaboration between students, assess
student success, and provide other learning resources for
support
LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
BACKGROUND
 First developed by Sidney L. Pressey, the Teaching Machine offered various
kinds of practical exercises and multiple-choice questions (MCQs)
 The LMS was developed in 1924 when Sidney Pressey invented the first
teaching machine.
 The first open source LMS, MOODLE (Modular objective oriented dynamic
learning environment)was introduced. With MOODLE, learners could start
learning as soon as they downloaded the application onto their desktop.
Purpose of Learning Management System and
How LMS helps students and teachers
 A Learning Management System (LMS) is an online integrated software used for creating, delivering,
tracking, and reporting educational courses and outcomes. It can be used to support traditional face-
to-face instruction, as well as blended/hybrid and distance learning environments. Schools use LMS
software to plan, implement, facilitate, assess, and monitor student learning. All of these activities are
conducted behind a virtual wall that provides a measure of authentication, security, and privacy. The
LMS helps schools maintain the integrity of their educational programs by enabling educators to
effectively and efficiently develop courses, deliver instruction, facilitate communication, foster
collaboration between students, assess student success, and provide other learning resources for
support. This information can be analyzed to detect patterns and gaps in learning for needed remedial
student support and overall class improvement. Leaders can access reports by class and overall school
performance for improvement planning and data-driven professional development. Within an LMS
teachers can combine/align standards with curriculum/resources and assessments, monitor students’
progress, activities, and other performance outcomes of targeted individualized student learning
objectives and overall school improvement initiatives/strategies. Teachers can set the targeted
individual student's learning objectives and provide them with immediate feedback on areas needing
improvement. An LMS also provides teachers with one central location for lesson and assessment
planning, student feedback portals, parent and family reports, and end-of-course grades, just to name
a few.
The advantage of using LMS
 9 Advantages of Learning Platforms or LMS by Communication | Blog CAE,

Compliance with using LMS
 There are several compliance standards that an LMS must meet in order to be
considered compliant. These standards include: The system must have the ability
to track and report on employee training compliance. The system must be able to
generate certificates of completion for employees who complete training courses.
The system must be able to integrate with other compliance tracking systems. The
system must be able to provide management with reports on employee training
compliance. The system should have the ability to integrate with other
compliance tracking systems. If you are not sure whether or not your LMS meets
these compliance standards, you should contact a compliance specialist to assess
your system. Ensuring that your LMS is compliant with government regulations is
essential to the success of your organization. By following the tips outlined here
today, you can be sure that your LMS meets all of the necessary compliance
standards.
LMS Compliance Compliant learning management systems are essential to ensure safety and security for learning. By
meeting all compliance standards, LMSs can provide a secure and compliant learning environment for everyone
involved. This not only protects the learners, but also the organization providing the training. When an LMS is
compliant, it shows that the organization is committed to following all regulations and providing a safe learning
environment for its employees. It is all twofold: your LMS should be in compliance with regulations for your industry,

Relevance of LMS in teaching and
users
 With advancing technology and the constantly involving needs of modern learners the
traditional classroom based approach is fast losing its significant becoming less
efficient. Using learning management system in education offers a smart alternative to
educational institutions in such a scenario and allows instructor to deliver costumized
content leverage various pedagogical models and engaged their students much better
than previously possible .
 A learning management system in essentially a software tool used to deliver learning
content and other resources to end users . The popularity of LMS in higher education is
attributed to the ease that it's offers to teacher and instructors in delivering study
materials monitoring learner participation and assessing performance.
 Although there are various ways educational institutes can impart training to learners
one of the most effective means of delivering online training is through a learning
management system (LMS).
1.OFFER CENTRALIZED LEARNING It allows institutes to save all the e -learning
content in one single place instead of having it scattered of different locations.
2 . UNLIMITED COSTUMIZATION OPTIONS LMS can be a great tools for higher
education institutions as it gives them the freedom of unlimited costumization options
Instructor enjoy the liberty to tailor the e -learning content for the courses as much as
required from anywhere and at any given point of time .
3.TRACKING AND REPORTING It allows instructor to keep track of a learner's progress
in terms of course completion, identification, and knowledge gaps participation and
engagement level and time taken to complete the courses Reporting.
4.EASY UPGRADES Learning management system make it simple to update excisting
content without the need to make changes for each student separately as the upgraded
content gets distributed to the learners automatically.
5.ROBUST EVALUATION SYSTEM With an LMS you can easily evaluate your student
before, during and at the end of a course without interfering with the overall learning
process. furthermore the top LMS system available in the market can easily integrate
learning and evaluation under the same online platform and also allow students to review
their own performance as well .
How LMS is used
 LMSes are beneficial to a wide range of organizations, including higher education institutions
and corporations. The primary use of a learning management system is for knowledge
management (KM). KM refers to the gathering, organizing, sharing and analysis of an
organization's knowledge in terms of resources, documents and people skills. However, the
specific role of the LMS will vary according to the organization's training strategy and goals.
Some popular LMSes used by educational institutions include Moodle, Blackboard Learn and
Schoology. Popular enterprise-level LMSes include Adobe Captivate Prime, Docebo LMS,
TalentLMS, iSpring Learn and eFront. Employee training and onboarding is one of the most
common use cases for an LMS in a corporate environment. In this case, the LMS is used to
help train new employees by providing opportunities to access training materials across
various devices. New employees can be recognized when they add their own knowledge and
feedback, which will, in turn, help employers understand how effective the training courses
are and identify areas where new employees need more assistance. LMSes can be used for
extended enterprise training purposes as well. This includes customer, partner and member
training. Customer training is common in software and technology companies where users
need to be taught how a system works before they can use the new product. Providing
ongoing customer training will also help improve customer experience and increase brand
loyalty. Another common use of LMSes in corporate environments is for employee
development and retention. The LMS can be used to assign the necessary courses to current
employees to ensure they are developing effective job skills, remain informed about product
changes and maintain relevant knowledge through new product and compliance training.
Example of LMS
 EdApp EdApp is an award-winning learning management system recognized by
industry-leading brands like UNITAR, Deloitte, Mizuno, Dunhill, and Bayer.
 Schoology offers support to school districts, focusing on K-12 schools with tips for
parents and teachers alike. The Schoology environment is similar to Facebook, but
it provides more educational functions, such as online class tests, tests, quizzes,
and homework.
 Kadenze Kadenze is an LMS that has many partner educational institutions and
organizations that come together under one platform. Some of these partners
include Princeton University, Seoul Institute of Arts, Stanford University, California
Institute of Arts, and many more. Unlike the other LMSs in this list, this one targets
college-level education for music technology, coding, digital arts, and many more.
 EthosCE EthosCE is another learning content management system but is unique in
that it is targeted towards medical associations. In that sense, it doesn’t offer all the
creative options as other LMSs.
 Edmodo One more LMS to write about is Edmodo. This is another K-12 LMS and
focuses on satisfying teacher needs for classes that have turned remote. Courses
can be created that focus on empowering students to participate by giving them
great communication tools.
LMS Features
 1. LMS integrations Having an LMS that seamlessly integrates with other systems, like association
management software or talent management systems, enables L&D pros to supplement learner
information with important course completion data.
 2. Data tracking The ability for learning professionals to track a learner’s journey via stored data
helps them better understand how the courses and learners are performing, all in the same place.
 3. Personalized user experience To encourage wider adoption, a capable LMS should provide
content based on a learner’s history within the software, as well as their role.
 4. Offline learning trackers For roles that require training and assessments in a real-world setting,
like those that involve manual and technical activities, learning professionals may find it challenging
to track and store learning data.
 5. Automated alerts and notifications Even with the use of a feature-rich learning management
system, managers and L&D pros cannot properly identify a learner’s needs without the necessary
oversight.
6. Centralized learning materials An LMS isn't just for eLearning. It should be capable of housing
videos, slide decks, written instruction, and various other learning materials in a user-friendly,
centralized location.
7. Flexible reporting and analytics In order to properly gauge effectiveness of your learning programs,
an LMS should have flexible reporting and analytics that align with your eLearning objectives.
8. Remote or mobile-workforce ready Workforces are changing rapidly and popularity in remote work
continues to grow. On-site training may be inconvenient or even impossible for companies with a global
presence
9. Compliance For many businesses, it’s vital to remain compliant with government regulations or
corporate policies. This includes ensuring the right people are trained at the right time and that learners
are properly assessed in their understanding and awareness of regulatory requirements.
10. Assessment tools Although LMS reports and analytics can help learning professionals track their
learner’s engagement, it’s important to also gauge retention and comprehension.
11. Smart scheduling tools Even before most workforces went fully remote following COVID-19, it was
difficult to schedule face-to-face sessions that accommodated the entire team.
12. Test-out options Gauging what your learners already know can be challenging, even for
experienced L&D professionals.
13. Hosting options for maximum security Regardless of the LMS vendor, there should be data security
protocols set up to ensure your company’s sensitive information is safe. Single-tenant solutions can
provide the flexibility and security to train learners while lowering your risk of data breaches.

  • 15. How LMS is used  LMSes are beneficial to a wide range of organizations, including higher education institutions and corporations. The primary use of a learning management system is for knowledge management (KM). KM refers to the gathering, organizing, sharing and analysis of an organization's knowledge in terms of resources, documents and people skills. However, the specific role of the LMS will vary according to the organization's training strategy and goals. Some popular LMSes used by educational institutions include Moodle, Blackboard Learn and Schoology. Popular enterprise-level LMSes include Adobe Captivate Prime, Docebo LMS, TalentLMS, iSpring Learn and eFront. Employee training and onboarding is one of the most common use cases for an LMS in a corporate environment. In this case, the LMS is used to help train new employees by providing opportunities to access training materials across various devices. New employees can be recognized when they add their own knowledge and feedback, which will, in turn, help employers understand how effective the training courses are and identify areas where new employees need more assistance. LMSes can be used for extended enterprise training purposes as well. This includes customer, partner and member training. Customer training is common in software and technology companies where users need to be taught how a system works before they can use the new product. Providing ongoing customer training will also help improve customer experience and increase brand loyalty. Another common use of LMSes in corporate environments is for employee development and retention. The LMS can be used to assign the necessary courses to current employees to ensure they are developing effective job skills, remain informed about product changes and maintain relevant knowledge through new product and compliance training.
  • 16. Example of LMS  EdApp EdApp is an award-winning learning management system recognized by industry-leading brands like UNITAR, Deloitte, Mizuno, Dunhill, and Bayer.  Schoology offers support to school districts, focusing on K-12 schools with tips for parents and teachers alike. The Schoology environment is similar to Facebook, but it provides more educational functions, such as online class tests, tests, quizzes, and homework.  Kadenze Kadenze is an LMS that has many partner educational institutions and organizations that come together under one platform. Some of these partners include Princeton University, Seoul Institute of Arts, Stanford University, California Institute of Arts, and many more. Unlike the other LMSs in this list, this one targets college-level education for music technology, coding, digital arts, and many more.  EthosCE EthosCE is another learning content management system but is unique in that it is targeted towards medical associations. In that sense, it doesn’t offer all the creative options as other LMSs.  Edmodo One more LMS to write about is Edmodo. This is another K-12 LMS and focuses on satisfying teacher needs for classes that have turned remote. Courses can be created that focus on empowering students to participate by giving them great communication tools.
  • 17. LMS Features  1. LMS integrations Having an LMS that seamlessly integrates with other systems, like association management software or talent management systems, enables L&D pros to supplement learner information with important course completion data.  2. Data tracking The ability for learning professionals to track a learner’s journey via stored data helps them better understand how the courses and learners are performing, all in the same place.  3. Personalized user experience To encourage wider adoption, a capable LMS should provide content based on a learner’s history within the software, as well as their role.  4. Offline learning trackers For roles that require training and assessments in a real-world setting, like those that involve manual and technical activities, learning professionals may find it challenging to track and store learning data.  5. Automated alerts and notifications Even with the use of a feature-rich learning management system, managers and L&D pros cannot properly identify a learner’s needs without the necessary oversight.
  • 18. 6. Centralized learning materials An LMS isn't just for eLearning. It should be capable of housing videos, slide decks, written instruction, and various other learning materials in a user-friendly, centralized location. 7. Flexible reporting and analytics In order to properly gauge effectiveness of your learning programs, an LMS should have flexible reporting and analytics that align with your eLearning objectives. 8. Remote or mobile-workforce ready Workforces are changing rapidly and popularity in remote work continues to grow. On-site training may be inconvenient or even impossible for companies with a global presence 9. Compliance For many businesses, it’s vital to remain compliant with government regulations or corporate policies. This includes ensuring the right people are trained at the right time and that learners are properly assessed in their understanding and awareness of regulatory requirements. 10. Assessment tools Although LMS reports and analytics can help learning professionals track their learner’s engagement, it’s important to also gauge retention and comprehension. 11. Smart scheduling tools Even before most workforces went fully remote following COVID-19, it was difficult to schedule face-to-face sessions that accommodated the entire team. 12. Test-out options Gauging what your learners already know can be challenging, even for experienced L&D professionals. 13. Hosting options for maximum security Regardless of the LMS vendor, there should be data security protocols set up to ensure your company’s sensitive information is safe. Single-tenant solutions can provide the flexibility and security to train learners while lowering your risk of data breaches.
