Working Title: Retro Love
What is it called? This can change if you think of something better later
Audience:
My audience is going to be rather wide spread as the age is any male or female between 18 and
25. This would be because the games I am thinking about adding into the product are played
widely by both genders. The social status of the audience would be C1C2. They will not be
unemployed as they need money to buy the consoles or PCs they game on and therefore have not
have any real reason to buy the magazine. My audience will be in the belonger group as I feel that
magazine brands all have their own community groups in which fans can talk to each other and
love and share their favourite games.
Who is your audience? Be very detailed; age, gender, social status, psychographic etc. Use the
Audience Classifications PowerPoint on Blackboard to help you develop this section.
Why would your project appeal to this person? Discuss each audience element in relation to
content (why would your product appeal to the age group? Why would your product appeal to the
gender? Etc.)
Rationale (approx. 100 words)
Throughout the past years, I have completed many products and projects which I feel could aid me
in this major project. I have chosen to create a magazine because I have the most experience in
print work and I find myself putting more creativity and effort into the creation of such media. It is
certainly more of a passion. I have made many other magazine products in the past both gaming
related and music. In creation of the product I will be using Photoshop which is the software I have
used the most since I started this course and therefore I will be able to complete my tasks to a
higher standard than other media projects such as short film or audio.
The other media projects that I have done in the past have given me various skills that are
applicable to this project. In the short film rotation, I learnt how to properly use a camera to both
take pictures with any filter or effect I would like and record in a professional manner. The audio
project will help me a lot in producing my products as If I finish my magazine early and to a
standard I am happy with I can move onto making a slightly smaller product to accompany it that
uses audio based contents such as a podcast or YouTube video.
Review your progress throughout the year- what skills and knowledge have you acquired?
How has the subjects you have studied this year informed your choice for this project?
What have you studied and how will it have a direct impact upon your project?
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
My concept for my project is a mixed genre gaming magazine that caters to all gamers no matter
what platform they play on. Its purpose is to inform, review and connect thousands of gamers
worldwide and most importantly give the older gamers a nostalgic vibe. The magazine will have a
rather retro gamer theme to it but it will still cover all games and genres. The cover will be colourful
and vibrant with a feature game character layered over the top of certain parts of the page to
create depth and 3D. Along the side will be games included in the issue along with a list of
rumours about both upcoming new games and remasters for the older generation. The double
page spread will be joint and will feature a review on a game as of yet undecided which goes into
detail about various aspects such as graphics, initial thoughts and the storyline/gameplay. Across
the dps, there will be a screenshot of a background from the game with various smaller characters
and objects from within the game scattered around near the articles. I will be fuelling my ideas
from other related gaming magazines such as PC Gamer and Xbox Mag who use very similar
styles to the type of magazine I am thinking of creating.
To create such a project I need to research many things. If I want to up my skills in Photoshop to
create an even more professional looking magazine, I will have to look for tutorials on YouTube
about particular aspects and features to help me gain an idea on what to do. I will also need to
research my inspiration magazines to see how they position articles, images, etc, what fonts are
used where and what kind of content they add to their double page spreads to keep the audience
interested and content with the review/information.
To beef up my project I will also create a small website for my magazine in which issues can be
read and quick news, rumours and interactive community areas can be found. It will be branded

the same company as the magazine and will deliver the same kind of content too. There will be an
addition of links to add to the interactivity of the product and videos will also be featured on the
website of gameplay and podcasts to give the website a unique area part that the magazine would
not be able to get. There will be different themes to the website at different points of the year and
to show this I will be sure to create at least three versions of it with different colour schemes and
styles to show off the potential views that the audience could get if visited at specific times. To help
me create this I will need to look at tutorials on YouTube much like for the magazine and find
forums, etc in which people are willing to help out. I will also be able to use specialised websites
which help you design and place content into a website easily and quickly such as Wix.com. These
websites also let me add more complex options in such as promotional pop ups and even email
subscription services – this will help me gain feedback on my website's design, the products and
content within, and also the methods of advertising used.
To market my product, I will create small ads that would most commonly be viewed on social
media websites such as Facebook and Instagram. They will not be interactive but will be eye
catching and vibrant with persuasive writing to pull the reader's interest. I will create one
interesting ad each for three potential platforms (YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram) to show off
how the product will look in the typical virtual world.
What is the concept for your project and what are you going to make?
What research will you need to conduct and how will it help you make your project/
Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
To evaluate my work, I will be using premade PowerPoints to reflect on the work that I have
finished. The benefit to this is that I will be able to clearly and easily find the aspect I need work on
in the future and see what I need to rectify it and improve it. As I plan and create my product, I will
also be making a progress powerpoint section in which I will take screenshots of my work (used &
unused) at differing stages of development to help myself reflect on specific areas of creating the
product. Finally, I will also be creating a development blog at the end of every week in which I will
detail what exactly I have been doing and what my strengths and weaknesses are.
How do you plan to evaluate the work? Reference conducting on-going evaluation and your final
self-reflection, analysing your work and its outcomes.
