How to pitch your startup and make a the pitch presentation of your idea to win startup competitions and get funded.
Me and my team were able to win multiple startup competitions in San Francisco and Silicon Valley. What is more important, we were able to find most of our investors winning these competitions. Winnig at the startup pitch contests led us to build an amazing product http://talktochef.com/ and more importantly build a superior platform which helped multiple companies build their own online education and micro-consulting businesses using our API.
So, how to pitch your startup?
There are 3 main things what investors and judges are looking for and they answer one simple question: "what is there for me?":
1. Team: integrity, passions, experience, commitment, vision, skills, knowledge
2. Business model: how it’s going to scale, make money, verified, any customers?
3. Market size: how big is this opportunity, how did you calculate it, why these particular people
These three parts could be explained with no slides, in 3 slides or a pitch presentation that contains a dozen slides.
There are also 5 less important recommendations that answer the question "how to pitch your startup" and help strengthen the points above:
1. Show your passion – if you are not passionate about your idea, why should others care then?
2. Fewer words on slides the better - people have to focus on you, not your slides!
3. Always look at the audience - making the eye contact helps to build trust and confidence in your words.
4. Be able to explain what your startup does in 10 seconds - if you can't do it, you do not know what your geneus idea is.
5. Don’t be afraid to fail - the person who never made a mistake never tried anything new!
11. Make sure it solves a real pain,
and it is not just good to have
