Several years ago marketing in print publications created fantastic results. Today that is not the case – internet marketing provides a greater return on investment due to social networking and other connections you can make with customers and potential customers.
  5. 5. Increasing Your Web Site Traffic & Growing Your Business Deciding how to use internet marketing to your best advantage is like this can of puzzle pieces – you not only have to choose the right ones, but they have to fit together to get the end result you are looking for.

Increasing Your Web Site Traffic & Growing Your Business Facebook Twitter Google+ Pinterest Social Media Networks Slideshare YouTube Mobile Media App Stores Social Media Networks such as Facebook, Twitter, Google +, etc., allow you to connect with not only existing customers but potential customers as well. The key to using Social Networking is choosing the platform that your customers use. For a small business, having your own app that customers can install on their smart phones will give you another way to build positive relationships and business with your customers and future customers. Potential customers and existing customers look for your business on the internet and they are using today’s mobile devices. Your site must be responsive and not only look good on all devices, but MUST BE USEFUL and USER FRIENDLY ON ALL DEVICES!!!! Slideshare is another web services that allows you to share presentations such as this. Using slideshare and similar sites gives you the opportunity to establish your business as an expert. YouTube is another great way to help establish your expertise for your business. Create your own YouTube channel and regularly post content that will provide a benefit to your customers and potential customers.

Increasing Your Web Site Traffic & Growing Your Business Local Pages/Directories RSS Feeds Offline sources Blogging Paid Advertising Create a Mailing List Local Internet Pages/Directories are good ways to list your business (sometimes for free). The more links and references you have about your business on the internet will help google and other search engines find your business. Having a Blog on your website or on another site is a great way to help establish your business and your expertise. Offering bits of information and help in your blog increases the trust your customers and others will have in your business and you. Allowing your web site and blog to participate in RSS feeds automatically feeds your headlines and interesting topics to your customers and future customers. The best part of this is you don’t need to do anything other than write great content for your website. Paid advertising gives you the opportunity to have your ads appear at the top of web search pages – but you pay for this and depending on the keywords it can be costly. Also, pay per click advertising is also available so that each time someone clicks on your ad you pay for that ad. I would not do this until I have a following for my business and website and use it to reach new customers. Offer something for free or offer to email your website visitors when there are site updates. This allows you to create a mailing list. This mailing list can also be used to send out sale notices as well as website updates. KEEP IN CONTACT WITH YOUR CUSTOMERS! You still can use offline sources to increase your website traffic. Make sure your website, blog, and on-line information is listed on all correspondence, business cards, print advertising, etc. Even put a sign on your car listing your business and website.

If your website isn’t located in first two pages of a search request, the chances are potential customers will not find you. Let’s take a look at some of the factors that decide your page ranking.

Increasing Your Web Site Traffic & Growing Your Business Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Most search engines use a formula or “algorithm” to determine ranking • Page title • Overall body content • Number and Quality of links • Social media influence • Meta tags and keywords • And more . . . Remember: Not all search engines use the same formula Optimizing your website and all content you post on the web is an important part of assisting the search engines in finding your site. If you don’t know how to do this, it is well worth the money spent to hire someone who does.

This slide and the next provides some easy things that you can do to help increase your search engine rankings.

Increasing Your Web Site Traffic & Growing Your Business Develop a Solid Internet Marketing Strategy • Include all or many of things we have talked about previously. • Put it on paper with goals that are measureable. • Your plan will change and evolve over time. • Focus on the long term, optimizing everything for SEO. • Provide amazing value to your site users and customers. • Think of SEO as an opportunity to create value. • Don’t try to outsmart Google and the search engines – your business will loose! By creating and writing down your Internet Marketing Strategy, you can easily set goals and determine when you meeting them. Your Internet Marketing Strategy will evolve as your business evolves and as you reach goals.
