9. Fat Removal
 Fat is removed from the deep

removed, but remaining cells can
expand if you gain weight after
surgery.
 If you gain weight, fat cells will
expand everywhere in your body,

10. Liposuction Candidacy
 Liposuction is performed for
areas of fat that are resistant to
diet and exercise
 Liposuction is not a weight loss
procedure (you may only lose 4-
5 lbs)
 You must be healthy and not be
on blood thinners. If you are
over 50, or have any medical
conditions you will need a
medical exam before surgery
 Your BMI should be less than 30
(preferably less than 28)

11. Surgery and After Surgery
 1-3 hour surgery under general
anesthesia at our AAAHC accredited
surgery center
 Outpatient procedure (you can go home
after surgery)
 Wear a compression garment for 4-6
weeks after surgery to decrease swelling
 You will see immediate results, but will
take 6-12 months for all swelling to
subside

12. Bruising and Swelling
 Bruising can take up to a month to
totally fade
 Swelling takes 6- 12 months to subside,
and skin will tighten over time
 You may feel “lumps” under the skin
that will need massage and time to
resolve
 Exercise and diet should start one
month after surgery to optimize results
 Best results are obtained by achieving
a normal BMI after surgery

13. Cellulite
 Cellulite and fat are two different
things. Cellulite is the “lumpy”
appearance of abnormal fat
cells and adhesions under the
skin
 Cellulite is not removed with
liposuction. Cellulite can be
helped with diet, exercise and
Endermologie or Venus Freeze
(a rolling massage like treatment
done in office after you have
recovered from lipo)

14. Realistic Expectations
 “All” fat can not be removed. We must leave a layer of fat
underneath the skin to avoid dimpling and loss of blood supply.
 Although you will lose inches, you will lose a small amount of
weight on the scale.
 We cannot remove “visceral” fat, fat underneath the muscle in
your abdomen.
 If your BMI is above normal, liposuction can not make you
“skinny”. You must combine liposuction with exercise and diet
after surgery to achieve a normal BMI.
 Liposuction can not get rid of cellulite and loose skin. Certain
areas of our bodies are made to have loose skin (inner thighs
and lower abdomen), and will be loose afterwards.
 Liposuction can not give you a six pack. This is achieved
through abdominal muscle development and achieving a low
body fat %.
