Large, exaggerated, Twiggy eyelashes dominated
the runways. Our favourite looks are Louis Vuitton’s
doll-like clumpy lashes and the thick blue-mascara-
minimal-make-up look from Au Jour Le Jour.
CUPID’S BOW
A throwback to the screen stars of the 1920s, the defined cupid’s
bow has become an obsession with celebrities lately. Exaggerate
the curves of the upper lips (think Kylie Jenner) with a lip pencil to
give your lips more definition and make them look plumper.
FAUX FRECKLES
After years of covering up, you can now
do the opposite. Flaunt your freckles,
and if you don’t have them, draw them
on like they did at Preen. They make
your skin look youthful and natural,
offsetting the cakey, made-up look.
HEADPIECE
HYSTERIA
Glam up your
tresses with gilded
headbands, floral
barrettes, ornate
combs and satin
ribbons, seen on
the runways of
Mui Mui, Dolce &
Gabbana, Marc
Jacobs and others.
CUPID’S BOW
They were hot in 2015 and the trend has carried
over into 2016. Miniature plaits on Gucci, a
head full of braids at Valentino, tough-girl
plaits at Celini and rope braids at the Public
School show in New York. Try ’em all.

Besides bronde, babylights and
balayage, pastels (lilac at Giamba,

rose gold locks (seen on Carven,

DYE FOR IT
The natural, fresh-faced, minimal make-
up look made its presence felt at many
shows, including Hermes and Alexander
Wang. A soft grey eyeliner, a light blush
and tinted lip balm are all you need to
achieve this. And good skin, of course.
GYM GLOW
We aren’t talking about
sweaty red faces – we are
talking about skin that looks
like you had a light workout.
Glowy gym skin was all
the rage on Gucci, David
Koma, Stella McCartney
and Giambattista Valli. Use
a sheer foundation or BB/
CC cream, something that
doesn’t give you
heavy coverage.

In art, the blank parts of
the canvas complement
the positive/colour-filled
space. This minimalistic
play on the French mani
has taken runways by storm.
Incidentally, this lasts longer
as the polish rarely reaches
the tips aka #nochip.
High or low, this hairstyle is here to
stay. Balmain had sleek, high ponytails
that accentuated the cheekbones and
tightened eye lines, Oscar de la Renta’s
low ponytail created a softer, flirty look.
No matter what you pick, you win.
The models at Dries van Noten and Robert
Cavalli rocked the 1950s’ quiff, which is similar to
the poof. All you need are hairspray, comb and
bobby pins. Take the top section of your hair
and backcomb it. Lightly spray with hairspray
and pin down.

oily skin for years and
now the beauty industry

our routines for glowing

JEWEL ART
Jewellery on your face?
Why not! Givenchy’s
creative director Riccardo
Tisci had models step
out with facial jewellery –
lace-and-pearl encrusted
facemasks, beads and
fabric. Dion Lee used
custom-made necklaces,
which went from the top
of the model’s head to
her chin.

Super-smooth, pin-
straight hair graced the
runways of Balmain,
where models flaunted
high ponytails, while
Alexander Wang and
Victoria Beckham
showcased long, loose
straight hair. If you
can’t be bothered to
straighten your hair
every day, go for a
keratin treatment and
straighten it for a couple
of months.
KERATIN CALLING LOB LOVE
Meet the Bob’s cousin the Lob. A versatile do
that flatters all face shapes, it has been the cut of
the season and has found fans in celebrities like
Khloe Kardashian and Jennifer Lawrence.
P.S. It’s the best cut for a sexy bed-head look.

VA VA VOLUME
A homage to the 60s’ and 80s’ bouffant, the
S/S 16 runways saw a lot of big hair. Look like
a retro vixen with some mousse and a lot of
backcombing. More practically, tie a low ponytail
and add volume just to your crown.
X-TREME EYES
S/S 16 biggest beauty trend is eyes.
Crayon, glitter, paints and pigments in
all the colours of the rainbow were used
to create dramatic eyes. For a night out,
try a pink smokey eye with nude lips or
go all out with purple glitter lids. For the
adventurous, there’s the aqua or brown
liner a la Missoni. Or a double-sided cat
eye. Or mask eyeshadows. Or tea-
stained eyes. Be bold!

golds are in this spring.
Renowned makeup
artist Pat McGarth went

Creatures Of The Wind
adorned the eyes with it.
Z FOR ZINC
It’s the mineral du jour. From treating rashes and acne
to being a great sunscreen and antioxidant, zinc works
wonders on the skin. Mineral makeup is now all the
rage as zinc gives opacity to make-up products and
makes it easier to conceal blemishes and other flaws.
TIGHTLINED PEEPERS
Your lash waterline is the little bit of skin at
the base of your top and bottom eyelashes.
Tightlining your upper waterline will make
your lashes appear thicker. To intensify the
look, tightline your lower waterline.

A homage to the 60s’ and 80s’ bouffant, the
