The Center for Entrepreneurship Studies at Bridgewater State University is a cross-
divisional and interdisciplinary effort to educate the BSU community and bring together internal
and external resources to catalyze small business development within the Southeastern MA
region. Through a range of programs, partnerships, services and events, the Center promotes
enterprise and equips entrepreneurs with the tools they need to succeed. During academic
years 2010-2013 the CES:
 Hosted excellent Entrepreneurs-in-Residence, including Vicki Donlan and Norman Brust
 Executed well-attended quality public events serving more than 250 people including:
o Case Study moderated by Susan Wornick,
o Business Expo for Entrepreneurs featuring Brian Halligan, CEO of Hubspot,
Chambers, and regional small business support agencies
o 14 workshops, which included students and members of the Public, in
partnership with the Mass Small Business Development Center and Indigo
Venture Law Offices of Cambridge
o Secured sponsorships from Middlesex Savings Bank and in-kind services from
Indigo Venture Law Offices of Cambridge.
 Executed the 2011, 2012 and 2013 Business Plan Contests (28 registrants, 13 finalists)
with quality judges from the regional and statewide entrepreneurial ecosystem
 Participated in BAWIB Youth Entrepreneur Planning and on the Southeastern New
England Entrepreneurship Forum
 Executed a Junior Achievement Academy, June 2013

Focus on the Business Plan Competition:
The Annual Business Plan Competition is open to BSU Students who can compete singly, or in
teams with other students or community members. The CES Business Plan Competition is an
opportunity for BSU students, faculty, staff and alumni to form teams, develop business plans
and build new enterprises. The Competition rewards participants with feedback from qualified
judges and provides capital in the form of cash prizes to be divided among the winning teams.
The Competition promotes entrepreneurship and the development of start-up companies by
members of the BSU community, building bridges between BSU and the Bridgewater area
entrepreneurial community, and encourages commercialization of promising ideas emerging
from the competition.
2011 Business Plan Contest Winners:
First Prize: Sharmila Dabare, Montessori@Work.
Second Prize: Donna Marchand, Stix for Chix. Stix for Chix launched in the summer of 2011.
Third Prize: Eric Solberg, CrossTech Inc.
2012 Business Plan Contest Winners:
First Prize: Craig Rondeau, '11, of Marshfield, “Business Station”.
Second Prize: Ross DePina, with Charles Monfort and Levy Silva, all residents of Brockton,
"Golden Gaming Center."
Third Prize: Eric Solberg of Plainville for his presentation, "Lawn in Order”
2013 Business Plan Contest Winners:
 First prize: Jake Wilde of Bridgewater for “Castle Lighting”
 Second prize: Ariana Davis of Brockton for “Soluna”.
 Third prize: Jesse Medford of Lakeville for “J.D. Medford ATM, LLC.”
