MODERN PLASMA GASIFICATION
FACILITY POWERED BY WPP
This WPP Design Series lot is an improved version of the game-default Waste to
Energy Power Plant. Using the real-world Plasma Gasification process to vaporize
waste material, the resulting steam & SynGas are both used to power generators to
produce electricity. In addition to the obvious advantage of turning trash into
electricity and reusable green fuels, the process is extremely clean and
environmentally friendly.
Plasma Gasification has been used for years for the disposal of industrial & bio
hazard wastes. More recently, municipalities world wide are adopting the process to
eliminate the huge costs and environmental issues of dumping municipal solid

wastes into landfills. New technologies and innovations have greatly reduced the
operating costs of this process... and have added additional benefits in the form of
generated electricity, reusable clean fuels, recyclable products and even potable
water.
Fully detailed model of a workable gasification
The Plasma Gasification Plant is a fully detailed model of a workable gasification and
power generation process. The interior of the structure is illuminated to make the
components visible through the dome. In-game, the lot is a identical to the game-
default Waste to Energy Power Plant except that is a single tile wider (5x4) and
produces very little pollution over a much smaller area.
or starters, suffice it to say that this is not science fiction. Plasma Gasification has
been used for years to get rid of garbage... primarily dangerous industrial & bio
hazard wastes. More recently, the technology has been applied to the disposal of
normal municipal solid wastes... and the realization of its profitability, among other
benefits, has attracted the attention of cities worldwide.
In effect, the function of this plant is similar to any facilitiy that incinerates garbage.
However, incinerators burn trash at a temperature of around 1500 degrees (F). They
use a lot of oxygen to fuel the fires and, of course, spit out hoards of carbon and
other air pollutants.
4. January 6, 2011 PLASMA GASIFICATION[ ] Powered by WPP Energy Corp
In contrast, Plasma is... very simply put, an electrical arc. It can burn at
temperatures over 20,000 degrees (F) which is several times hotter than the Sun. It
works a little like the big bang, only backward (you get nothing from something).
Sealed vessel made of stainless steel
Inside a sealed vessel made of stainless steel containing a small amount of stable
gas... either pure nitrogen or more commonly, ordinary air... a 650-volt current
passing between two electrodes rips electrons from the air, converting the gas into
plasma. Current flows continuously through this newly formed plasma, creating a
field of extremely intense energy very much like lightning. The radiant energy of the
plasma arc is so powerfull, it disintegrates trash into its constituent elements by
tearing apart molecular bonds.
The system is capable of breaking down pretty much anything except nuclear waste,
the isotopes of which are indestructible. The only by-products are an obsidian-like
glass used as a raw material for numerous applications, including bathroom tiles and
high-strength asphalt, and a synthesis gas, or “syngas” which is a mixture of
primarily hydrogen and carbon monoxide that can be converted into a variety of
marketable fuels, including ethanol, natural gas and hydrogen.
5. January 6, 2011 PLASMA GASIFICATION[ ] Powered by WPP Energy Corp
Perhaps the most amazing part of the process is that it’s self-sustaining. Just like
your toaster, the Plasma Converter draws its power from the electrical grid to get
started. The initial voltage is about equal to the zap from a police stun gun. But once
the cycle is under way, the 2,200 degree (F) syngas is fed into a cooling system,
generating steam that drives turbines to produce electricity. Some of the electricity
is siphoned off to run the converter. The rest can be sold back to the utility grid.
Our Designn facility adds some enhancements to the process... but they are all very
real technologies and in current use. The model we have created for the game in not
eye-candy. Although it is our own design and glitzed for the modern Designn series,
it is a true model containing all the required components for the Plasma Gasification
process & generation of electricity. This overhead view of our model shows the
components:

The process plays out something like this:
1. Incoming trash is dumped into the angled garbage chute where gravity feeds it
into the grinding wheels. The ground garbage is then feed into the gasifiers.
2. In the gasifiers, the garbage is destroyed by the plasma and turned into SynGas.
The moisture in the garbage is turned into live steam. Both the SynGas and the
steam are piped into the Heat Exchanger.
3. Inside the Heat Exchanger, the 2,200 degree (F) SynGas heats recycled water
into steam and is cooled in the process. The cooled gas is then fed to the SynGas
Filter. Meanwhile, the steam from the gasifiers is mixed with the steam created by
the heated SynGas... and that steam is fed to the Steam Turbine.
7. January 6, 2011 PLASMA GASIFICATION[ ] Powered by WPP Energy Corp
4. The Steam Turbine powers a generator which produces the electricity used by the
entire facility... including the plasma jets.
5. The cooled SynGas from the Heat Exchanger is piped to a filter where the gas is
cleaned up for use in the Gas Turbine.
6. The Gas Turbine is powered by the SynGas... which powers another generator to
produce electricity which is sold back to the grid for profit or used as a municipal
power source.
The entire process is environmentally very clean. Total emissions are less
than those produced from a comparable natural gas powered power plant.
Excess SynGas can be resold to be converted into other environmentally-
friendly fuels.
Excess water can be distilled and resold as drinking water... or diverted as
gray-water for agricultrual purposes.
Oxygen for the gasifiers is pulled in from the garbage collection area...
creating a negative pressure within the facility which, essentially, sucks in all
the stink of the garbage. You could live next door to one of these facilities and
never know it.

WPP ENERGY CORP BRIEF CURRICULUM VITAE
SENIOR MANAGEMENT
Rafael Ben, President,
Chairmen of the board
Global head quarters divisions
President and chairmen in charge of WPP Energy Corp, heading a team leadership
engineers and experts in the waste to energy power generation with the latest
modern technologies, well recognized on a global scale, having an extensive
technical and business experience conducting business ventures over USA, Europe,
Asia, Canada, Australia and other parts of the world.
Rafael Ben holding patents and patens pending in the area of green and renewable
energy industries in mind of contributing to change the worlds habit using high rising
oil prices, and clean up the world from the gases and fumes that are our day to day
concerns with a better and greener methods of energy, such our latest modern
waste to energy technologies.
In 1972 Rafael Ben became concerned about the energy and fuel futures of the U.S.
and began working on alternate fuels on the side while working at MIT in the field of
solid state research. He was the first person to use alcohol blends during this period
and when he wrote "Methanol - A Clean Fuel for the 21st century", for Science
magazine, it changed his career. In this article he said that for the short term
methanol would be made from natural gas, but in the long term biomass could
supply our needs forever.
He continued to work on methanol and biomass at MIT until 1977, but MIT has many
associations with large business that makes it an unlikely place for developing
alternative energy sources. In 1977 Rafael Ben moved to the Waste To Energy
Research Institute (WTER), now NECB) in Golden, Colorado to work on alternate
fuels from biomass. Much of his time was occupied in developing a high pressure,

oxygen gasifier for making synthesis gas for methanol, but he also wrote several
books on gasification and biomass. SERI started with high hopes for effective energy
research, but during the Reagan - oil-glut years there was not much funding for such
"nonsense".
In 1986 Rafael Ben took a position as research professional at the Colorado School of
Mines in the department of Chemical Engineering where he now pursues work on
various aspects of biomass and gasification at his own pace and direction. In
particular, he traveled to India for FAO in 1990 and evaluated conversion of
agricultural wastes to fuels and in 1992 he traveled to China for the Rockefeller
Foundation to evaluate two new gasifiers built there. In 1996 he travelled around the
world, visiting various gasification sites, gathering information for the book "Survey
of Biomass Gasification".
Rafael Ben has recently become the president of the Biomass Energy Foundation, a
501 (c) 3 organization dedicated to research, inventions and education in the field of
biomass energy. The foundation operates a small Press which keeps important books
in this field available.
