Humans of Giving shares stories from real brand funded philanthropists who have made a difference. By gifting the experience of philanthropy, you are creating heroes.
3. Giving is personal.
Giving is Raw. Emotional. Individual.
Socially aware organizations understand this.Today, leading companies are even extending their
philanthropic programs out to their most important stakeholders: employees and customers.
We call this philanthromarketing™ or inspiring pro-social experiences to grow good together.
It is proven that giving elicits a common emotion in every person – it doesn’t matter how much,
but rather the act.Through philanthromarketing™, brands can create loyal customers, and retain
exceptional employees. We are finding that organizations can gift as little as $25 DoDollars to their
employees or customers and see positive returns.
This e-book shares stories from real brand funded philanthropists who have made a difference. By
gifting the experience of philanthropy, you are creating heroes.
The individual images on the following pages are not reflective of those who shared, but rather
showcasing the beauty of all people. Regardless of race, religion, age, ethnicity, and gender, we all
have the propensity to care about and support causes important to us.And, we do.
We did not distort or change the language in these stories for marketing purposes. This was
purposeful. Giving should always be authentic and true to the spirit. You will read the passion
expressed by these humans throughout the next pages.

Center of El Paso.To be able to see the smile on the
children’s faces of how happy they were to receive our
gift. It was a priceless moment I will never forget.”

7. “I donate money to the Sioux Falls Area CASA
program because money is needed to recruit,
train and retain volunteers. These volunteers are
advocates for children that have been removed
from their homes due to abuse and/or neglect.
At this time there are over 250 kids who don’t
have an advocate to speak for them in the court
system.”

8. “I made a donation to our local public radio station,WLRH 89.3
through the Alabama Educational Television Foundation. I did so
because not only do they provide community updates and national
news, but they also provide public service announcements for any
non-profit in Huntsville. Those PSAs do a lot for our local
non-profits because they get out their message free of charge.”

10. “My donation purchased 100
bookbags which was given to low
income students in a rural area.
The bookbags were given out
during a community field day and
cookout for the kids. All of the
children and parents were grateful.”

13. “I always do a donation to my child’s school (public
elementary school). As a volunteer in the school, I see
just how much the funding helps. As an example, field
trips that enrich the classroom education are funded
strictly by donations to the school. My child’s class was
able to visit a local aquarium to see the ocean life that
they studied. As a parent volunteer, I got to listen to how
excited the kids were to see the fish/animals they
studied.”

14. “My goal as a coach in my local community is to help develop kids on and
off the field. I promote that Athletics and Scholastics go hand in hand. They
not only learn the fundamentals of cheerleading but also the importance of
education in a atmosphere conducive to developing sound character while
having a good time. I took 30 girls -20 that have never cheered before
and taught them the skills necessary to create a level 3 Pop Warner Cheer
Team. They went on to win 1st at Pop Warner District and South East
RegionTitles as well as become 2nd in the Nation at Pop Warner National
Cheer and Dance Competition at Walt Disney Resort ESPN Wide World
of Sports. Not only did they have a once in a lifetime experience but they
learned skills to help them later in life and created a sisterhood and
friendships that will last a lifetime. I also had 5 girls win the honor of All
American Scholar in Scholastics for their academic successes.”

17. “I donated my gift to the Boy Scouts of
America. The money provided will help pay
for many kids to attend scout camp over the
summer. Camping helps campers
develop self-reliance and resourcefulness
and camp also contributes to social
development. Camp uses the natural sur-
roundings to contribute significantly to
physical, mental, spiritual, and social growth.”

18. “I recently started contribution to the music program at SouthwestVirginia Community
College. I have always believed that music has the power to change peoples lives and
this program does that for the members of the communities in SouthwestVirginia.
Before getting into financial services I actually was a music major at this institution and
because of the work that the current professor did my life was forever changed.
Growing up in an economically depressed area I never would have been able to
experience places in the world such as NewYork City,Washington DC, Chicago, or
Atlanta. The work that this program does for high school and college kids is simply
amazing. In addition to the monetary donations I make each year I also chaperon
clinics with them and I will never forget taking a group to Wilmington, North
Carolina for a jazz clinic and taking a break from playing. We did lunch on the beach and
one of the girls who had never been out of the area was amazed at her first viewing of
the ocean and jumped in. Through the work of Dr. Joey Trivette at the school, that
student who came from a single parent house hold with an income of around 20
thousand per year was able to achieve a full ride to the Shenandoah Conservatory of
Music to study musical theater and performance. This work is so needed and every
dollar I can earn to help support that school I will make it one of my philanthropic
missions.”
21. “I have been aWishmaker with Make AWish of Central and SouthTexas for many years. Last
year I was privileged to be a part of the Over the Edge Challenge which raised over $650,000
and granted wishes for 130 children with life threatening illnesses. In support of these brave
kids I rapelled 38 stories down the side of a building in downtown Austin. I personally raised
almost $2000.”

22. “I work at a Catholic school in NJ. I am considered to be a middle class person.
I think the most difference that my donation made a difference is at the school I
work at since I see the fruits of the donation simply through the beautiful students
that walk in an out of my building everyday. The second place that I see my small
donation made a difference is at the church I pray at. I know that I am not the
major support of the church. However when I hear that my church is expanding
into a bigger one I know that if all the member think the same way I do with either
small or big donation we sure will make a difference. The third place that I chose
to donate to is St. Jude children’s research hospital. Since I have three beautiful
children, and if they get a little ill or just not feeling well I feel so bad for them. It
makes me wonder and pray for the parents with children’s that are suffering with
Cancer and serious diseases. If I do win this competition I would like to give my
winning to the school I work for and donate to.”

25. “I volunteer with and donate to Puppy Rescue Mission, a non-profit that
brings home the dogs and cats our troops adopt while they are serving in
Afghanistan and other war zones. Our troops become very attached to
these animals while serving and do not want to leave them behind.
Because they are not US military working dogs, they cannot fly with them
when their deployment is over, so PRM raises funds and coordinates
medical care and transport to bring these animals home. Because most
of PRM’s fundraising is online, their overhead is low, so I know most, if not
all, of my donations go directly to help the animals. It is a way I can say
THANKYOU for your service in a unique and tangible way. I recently
fostered two cats through PRM for a soldier until she finished her duty
assignment. I picked them up at the airport, they were a joy to care for
for a few weeks, then I sent them home to their soldier. As a graphic artist,
I volunteer my time to create the PRM calendar, holday cards, thank you
cards, and more. Using my talents for good! All to say thank you and help
our troops and the animals they love, and who love them unconditionally.
No one left behind!”

27. “My contribution goes to Dakota Dachshund Rescue in Sioux Falls, SD.
The rescue takes in not only Dachshunds but dogs of all breeds that are
in need of finding their forever homes. The rescue is operated off of strictly
donations and the costs involved in fostering can be very expensive and
include food, medical needs including surgeries, dental needs and
medications. They do not have a brick and mortar facility so foster homes
are needed to take in the rescued dogs. All of the funds go to the care of
the animals as everyone involved in the rescue is a volunteer. It is a very
important organization to myself and my family as we have dachshunds
ourselves and we adopted from the rescue 6 years ago and have been a
foster family ever since.”

28. “My contribution helped get a homeless
mom and her three kids into permanent
housing. I love supporting organizations
that help others through empowerment
and teaching as well as through financial
assistance. We can all help someone, even
if only in the smallest way.”

31. “For the past 12 years, I have been a regular volunteer at Natomas High
School in Sacramento, CA. I volunteer in the class for Autistic students.
Besides my personal monetary contribution, I have managed to raise about
$10,000 over the years for the program. The money was used to
purchase items such as a stove, a washer, a dryer and a refrigerator to
teach the students how to take care of themselves. Also we took them on
field trips to learn how to ride public transportation and not be afraid. We
also took them grocery shopping to get a feel for purchasing food items. It
feels good to know that I am making a difference for these students who
are so often forgotten in our society.”

32. “Ten years ago my mother passed away at only
54 years of age to Frontotemporal Degeneration
(FTD). It was truly sad to watch her waste away
but even sadder was the fact that she would not
see her grandchildren grow up due to this
terrible disease. For the last several years, I have
been giving to the cause to help cure this
disease and because of donors like me they are
beginning to make some real strives with
understanding this disease and one day hope to
cure it completely.”

35. “I made a contribution to the University of South Alabama towards my scholarship. My scholarship is
given to first generation college students in the College of Business. I donated because I believe
everyone deserves a chance to go to college regardless of their income and circumstances. I continue
to give because I see first hand the difference it is making to these kids and their contributions to our
community. Every semester I receive a letter from the winning student thanking me for the opportunity
and this means more to me than anything I could have bought myself with these dollars. These kids
have received better grades because they can focus on their education and not having to work so much
to pay for college. Their future contribution to society is more than I could ever ask for in return.”
