SUPPORTING STUDY
Peritoneoscopy for surgeons*- Prof UDWADIA
Annals of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (1986)
14 years and over 2,500 peritoneoscopy in a Surgical Unit,
Peritoneoscopy has its greatest value in the diagnosis of liver pathology,
in ascites, jaundice, malignancy and tuberculosis especially if non-
invasive scanning techniques are not available.
Surgeons will be gratified to find the extent to which the PeritoneoScope can
help arrive at an early histological diagnosis, plan surgery, reduce morbidity by
avoiding unnecessary surgery and shorten hospitalization.
SUPPORTING STUDY
• Bedside diagnostic laparoscopy to diagnose intraabdominal pathology in the
intensive care unit – Prof Adriano Peris -2008
• Intensive Care Unit University of Florence Italy
• 30 patients
• Bedside diagnostic laparoscopy represents a safe and accurate technique for
diagnosing intraabdominal pathology in an ICU setting and should be taken
into consideration when patient transfer to radiology or the operating room
is considered unsafe, or when routine radiological examinations are not
conclusive enough to reach a definite diagnosis
IS ATMOSPHERIC AIR IN ABDOMEN SAFE ?
Preoperative Progressive
Pneumoperitoneum
(PPP) is a technique well described for the
repair of giant ventral and incisional hernias
with loss of domain allowing for gradual
enlargement of the abdominal cavity
