ADIDJA AMANI
CEO & FOUNDER OF EAGLESWOMEN
MAIN POINTS OF A MOTIVATION LETTER (1)
 Write down some of the main ideas you
would like to approach in your letter
 Build around them, enrich their content
 Make your goal clear;
 Provide a short preview of the rest of the letter;
 Why do you think that the program/Job are
interesting and suitable for you? ;
MAIN POINTS OF A MOTIVATION LETTER (2)
 Focus on your strongest qualifications, past
experiences (international experiences are always
relevant) and qualities;
 organize the middle paragraphs in terms of the
qualifications most relevant for the program
 Conclude by restating your interest and show
appreciation for the chance to prove yourself in the
letter
 in some cases you can ask for a personal interview
DO & DON’T OF LETTERS OF MOTIVATION

 Be clear, concise
 Try to reflect personal approach as much as possible.
 If you know the name of HR person, address the letter
to this person.

 Don’t be too much vainglorious since this will make
wrong impression.
 Be realistic about yourself and try to point out your
strong points.
DO & DON’T OF LETTERS OF MOTIVATION
 Your letter should reflect positive spirit eg: ”I am
eager to improve my skills and fully prepared to
adapt myself to the new working environment…”,
instead of “I am not experienced in the relevant
field.”

opportunity before applying. This will show your
interest and reflect you ability to prepare relevant

application from other with same qualifications
SOCIAL MEDIA FOR
CAREER ENHANCEMENT
ADIDJA AMANI MD MPH
CEO & FOUNDER OF EAGLES WOMEN INTERNATIONAL
INTRODUCTION
 Being technologically competent and social media
savvy has become an avenue to academic and
career success.
 Control what appears as a top search result for your
name
 It's Not Narcissistic To Google Yourself
 SM is not a nicety; it is a necessity. Get it, learn it, use it.
 "It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the
most intelligent, but the one most responsive to
change." Charles Darwin
Why is it important for scientists to
be on social media ?1/2
 for the promotion of research but for
research development as well
 to boost professional profile and act as a
public voice for science.
 Find people with common interests;
 establish an online presence and avoid
undesirable Google search results
 There’s a growing body of literature
suggesting that outreach can have positive
effects on a scientist’s career.
Why is it important for scientists
to be on social media ? 2/2
 lack of an online presence can severely limit a
researcher's visibility
 a way to share journal articles
 advertise thoughts and scientific opinions, post
updates from conferences and meetings
 circulate information about professional opportunities
and upcoming events.
 to create networks of like-minded people.
 find possible clients, employers, or business partners.
DIRECT BENEFITS OF BEING ON SM
 Scientific Impact – a recent study found not only that
researchers whose work was mentioned on Twitter
tended to have a higher h-index
 Funding agencies are beginning to explore whether
SM activity can serve as a proxy measure eg: several
articles in PLOS
 Crowdfunding: A study of 97 crowdfunding
campaigns focused on cancer research, for example,
found that they raised an average of $45,629 from
donations
DIRECT BENEFITS OF BEING ON SM (2/2)
 connecting scientists with wealthy donors and angel
investors if they decide to try to commercialize their
research.
 Crowdsourcing –to recruit participants for
crowdsourced research projects, which are now
commonly used by biomedical researchers largely
through SM
 Networking x 1000. Meet new people and allowing you
to create new contacts, both in the academic realm
and outside it
Before posting any item on
