Dr. Maket began his distinguished career with six years in the Kenyan Ministry of Health, starting in
1994 as a medical officer-in-charge of Nakuru provincial general hospital-Annex. His strong
reputation and leadership skills in this role earned him the distinction of promotion to district
medical officer of health where he managed two successive districts each with approximately 45
health facilities including the district hospital, sub-district hospitals, health centers and
dispensaries. As district medical officer of health Dr. Maket managed all human resources, quality
improvement, budgets, work plans, and partner coordination within the Kajiado and then Kericho
districts of Kenya. This unique experience led Dr Maket to author a thesis on improving primary
health care management through decentralization of health services and the role of local
governments in Kenya which earned a distinction mark at the Nuffield Institute of health,
University of Leeds, UK. All these experiences have prepared Dr. Maket to understand the
challenges faced by health systems in developing countries today.
Building on his experience with the Kenyan Ministry of Health, Dr. Maket managed public health
programs within the NGO sector in Kenya, first leading World Vision’s Kenya health and nutrition
programs (including HIV/AIDS, MNCH, and nutrition), served as Country Director of the Hope for
African Children Initiative, and returned to World Vision to lead development, implementation, and
oversight of $30 million HIV/AIDS, MNCH, nutrition, and Malaria programming in 25 countries
throughout Sub-saharan Africa. Dr. Maket then moved abroad, first serving in Accra, Ghana as a
senior technical advisor as part of World Vision’s senior management team overseeing $ 5 million
per year in MNCH, nutrition, and malaria programs and approaches in eight countries of West
Africa; then managing $20 million in World Vision’s integrated HIV/AIDS and MNCH programs in
nine countries of Southern Africa, and finally managing the $6 million Malaria Control Evaluation
Partnership for PATH in Lusaka, Zambia. As the Deputy Director for Regional Programs, Dr Maket
led the establishment of PATH/MACEPA country presence in Zambia, Tanzania, Mozambique,
Malawi and Ethiopia through strategic negotiations and development of MOUs with respective
governments. As director-level staff on each of these public health programs Dr. Maket led complex
multi-country monitoring and evaluation efforts and capacity building for program and host-
country government staff, and earned a reputation for maintaining a culture of excellence, honesty,
independence, and trust among his staff.
Upon returning to Kenya, Dr. Maket deepened his experience managing USAID programs through
serving as Deputy Country Director for Jhpiego and lead for the USAID/Kenya APHIA Plus

Western/Nyanza program, overseeing Jhpiego’ s RH, MNCH, FP, HTC, TB, and VMMC technical
portfolio, and providing financial and administrative management for Jhpiego’ s $17 million APHIA
Plus subaward. Dr Maket also provided leadership to Jhpiego’ s CDC funded SAIDIA that focused on
HIV/TB care and treatment, HIV Testing and counselling, OVCs, abstinence and behavior change,
involvement of men in PMTCT and development of national palliative care and support guidelines.
During this time Dr. Maket sought creative ways to leverage the private sector, successfully
initiating a reproductive health and life planning project for students from Kenyatta University
funded by pharmaceutical giant MSD. Most recently Dr. Maket has served for the past two years as
Danya International’s senior director of programs, where he has fine-tuned his expertise in
strategic multi-country program leadership, management oversight to country program operations,
supervision and HR management and technical expertise in monitoring and evaluation, ICT, HRH,
and HMIS; he led Danya’s contributions to the USAID/Kenya FANIKISHA institutional strengthening
and capacity building project, and led a team of ICT experts to integrate ICT into the
USAID/Tanzania feed the future programs and development and roll out of eLearning for pre-
service training of health care workers on HIV/AIDS in the government KMTCs and Christian Health
Association of Kenya (CHAK) medical training colleges.
While Dr. Maket has deep technical expertise, he also has strong administrative and financial
management experience to ensure programs are well-implemented on time, within budget, and in
compliance with donor and host government rules and regulations. While country director of HACI
Dr. Maket helped set up the HACI country program from scratch, developing administrative and
financial systems, scopes of work, and awards with sub-grantees; of the 10 initial HACI countries
his office was the first to establish systems and disburse grants to CBOs within the first year of
project inception. Dr. Maket provided strategic leadership and management of the HACI Kenya
Country program through development and management of a comprehensive work plan, sound
financial management and budget control, staff recruitment and supervision. As the deputy
director, regional programs, for four years with PATH’s MACEPA program in Zambia Dr. Maket
supervised all financial and administrative operations, including a team of seven staff that included
technical experts, accountants, and administrative personnel responsible for project
administration. As deputy country director and APHIA Plus/Western lead, Dr. Maket was
responsible for contractual and budgetary compliance of Jhpiego’ s subaward, as well as tracking
project performance via specific U.S. government funding streams. During this time Dr. Maket also
managed and tracked budgets for subawards funded by private sector partners such as MSD and
the Gates Foundation.
Dr Maket has an enviable track record in business development in Africa, clinching his first success
with USAID 16 years ago with a 5 year Child Survival project in Kenya. He has subsequently led
success fundraising efforts in East and Southern African countries with bilateral and private donors.
In 2015 Dr Maket let Danya’s successful efforts together with Plan International in the development
and submission of a 5 year proposal for support to Orphans and Vulnerable children in Nairobi
County and 5 Counties in the coastal region of Kenya. He further led Danya into partnership with
Chemonics in the development and submission of an integrated service delivery proposal for Afya
Pwani and Jijini. Other organizations that Dr Maket forged partnerships with for business
development include PATH, Amref Health Africa, Abt Associates, ACDI/VOCA, World Vision
International, Management Sciences for Health and Jhpiego. Dr Maket’s business development

Maternal Newborn and Child Health (MNCH), Family Planning, HIV Testing and Counseling,
TB Screening, Cervical Cancer Screening and Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC).
The project consistently surpassed the VMMC annual targets.
 Ensured effective financial management and accountability for the projects under my
leadership including USAID funded APHIA plus Nyanza/Western project, CDC funded CDC
project, MSD and BMGF funded projects. All the projects were implemented within budget
and timelines.
 Successfully initiated a life planning project for the University students in two Campuses of
Jomo Kenyatta University and Kenyatta University. The project called the Brighter Future
was funded by the Pharmaceutical giant, MSD, helped students acquire skills to plan their

 Successfully integrated the concept of Health Wagons into urban and peri-urban family
planning project funded by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in the cities of Nairobi and
Kisumu as well as the towns of Machakos and Kakamega. These wagons made integrated
health services (MNCH/FP) accessible to families and communities in hard-to-reach
informal settlements in the cities and towns of Kenya.
 As the project lead, successfully negotiated partnership between the BMGF funded Advance
Family Planning (AFP) project and three county governments (Kakamega, Tharaka Nithi
and Siaya) in Kenya for grass roots advocacy for Family Planning.
 Maintained excellent working relationships with all donors, government officials and other
stakeholders within the health sector.
 As the lead investigator, developed and presented an innovative concept at the annual
Development Exchange Conference in DC, USA, titled “Reducing Maternal and Newborn
