The discussion of today
Dr Rupa Talukdar
A feeling of trouble, unease, or apprehensiveness in response to
imminent danger.
Fear is a vital response to physical and emotional danger—if we
didn't feel it, we couldn't protect ourselves from legitimate threats.
But often we fear situations that are far from life-or-death, and thus
hang back for no good reason.
Traumas or bad experiences can trigger a fear response within us
that is hard to quell.
Yet exposing ourselves to our personal demon(evil spirit) is the best
way to move past them.
Anxiety
A feeling of doom, unease, or apprehensiveness when no danger is
imminently present.
Anxiety is a general term for several
disorders that cause nervousness, fear,
apprehension, and worrying.
These disorders affect how we feel and behave,
and they can manifest real physical symptoms.
Mild anxiety is vague and unsettling,
while severe anxiety can be extremely incapacitating,
having a serious impact on daily life.
Phobia
A phobia is a type of anxiety. It's an irrational,
unreasonable fear of an object or situation.
A phobia starts when a person begins organizing their lives around
avoiding the object of their fear. A phobia is much more serious than a
simple fear. Sufferers have an overpowering need to steer clear of
anything which triggers their anxiety.
Individuals with a phobia go to great lengths to avoid a perceived danger
which is much greater in their minds than in real life.
If confronted with the source of their phobia,
the person will suffer enormous distress, which
can interfere with their normal function; it
can sometimes lead to total panic.
The body‘s response to
danger (or stress-
provoking events) and the
associated symptoms.
Anything that poses a challenge or a
threat to our well-being is a stress.
Some stresses get you going and they
are good for you - without any stress
many say our lives would be boring
and would probably feel pointless.
However, when the stresses undermine
both our mental and physical health
they are bad.
• Stress is the feeling we have when under pressure, while
stressors are the things we respond to in our environment.
Examples of stressors are noises, unpleasant people, a
speeding car, or even going out on a first date.
The difference
between "stress" and
"a stressor“
Rigidity and Flexibility
Cognitive and Emotional flexibility are included in most lists of executive or self-
regulatory functions.
To overcome fear/anxiety/phobia people needs to be future oriented: increase of
adaptability demands flexibility in personality
Rigid person prefers staying with old views as they like to block change or accept very
slowly the new concept/new frame of reference.
Cognitive flexibility enables students to shift effortlessly from task to task at school, from
topic to topic in conversation, from one role to another in games, and the like. Emotional
flexibility enables students to experience the full range of emotion, like happiness,
sadness, or anger, but be able to express them appropriately and then leave that emotional
expression behind when it is time to move on.
It’s the personality
Human being generally can adapt with the changes
around.
In practice it has been observed that there is few
people who gladly accept the change and some people
are there who at first attempt stay uncomfortable with
the change: they are of rigid personality.
All around us each and every inch of life changes as we
grow with time: change is the LIFE: students, adults
whose emotional and cognitive functioning are rigid ,
they suffer a lot: they will be under stress.
When everything around is OK/not Ok
We have tendency to fixing blame first instead
of realizing the problem/conflict
No blame is allowed: need an attempt to
analyze the failure of certain
project/action/deed
Just have an idea:
• The quality of a painting is the responsibility of a
painter only. Like this quality of our life and lifestyle is
the sole responsibility of us only.
• So a person is only ok when the same person gets the
right man within himself /herself and then only s/he
can see the world outside right.
To be Ok, need to learn how to be a
responsible person
Leading a life of own is only
possible if a person learns how
to take joy and sorrow with
equal responsibility
If cause of joy is only the
responsibility of a person then
reason of failure is also for the same
person
Needs to learn success and failure with
equal interest
For failure instead of blaming others it is wise
to analyze the entire situation being flexible to
accept the new approach
Open to ideas may bring triumph
in the next step and helps a
person to learn there is always an
alternative process to achieve a
goal.
Why we could not analyze the reality of
failure
It’s the
personality
of the person
The
environment
around
The
childhood
learning
process
The
immediate
relatives in
the family
It is the personality
In our previous lesson we talked about the BIG
Five Personality : 5-Dimentional personality
 Extraversion/Introversion
 Agreeableness: skill of going along
 Neuroticism: instability
 Conscientiousness: motivation
 Openness: alternative way of thought
The combination of above 5-dimension constitutes a
personality
How to manage all these factors in
life!!!
Personality is
the
combination
of these five
factors:
Variation of these
five factors
produces a unique
nature of each
personality, for
these each human
being is unique in
nature
So there is no
common way to
nurture a baby:
every individual
demands a set of
new approaches
There is some
general categories
which every
individual should
learn to have a
complete picture:
but when a person
is going to deal with
reality s/he should
have capacity to
adopt an alternative
as per situation.
So our seniors
has duty to
cultivate
creativity in every
individual so that
they can bring
innovation when
a generalized
approach fails.
Creativity invites
alternatives in
life; it brings a
freshness and
sooth in
personality; that
generates
ultimate
happiness in life.
Be happy with changes of life: it helps you to be
competent
For enjoying a life we need to be
competent to handle our life situation
First step is to remember, it is my
life; so it’s our situation that we
are going to face every moment of
our life
Foremost duty of us to become
knowledgeable how to handle the
life situation
To become knowledgeable each
one of us needs to be courageous
to act as an observer and have
keenness to generate next step to
face the situation positively.
Which personality suffers most!!!!!!
Personality with Extreme Anxiety proneness:
• To them each and every change is anxiety provoking-
they can not simply allow anything around to change
for even betterment of the same person in future:
always suspicious about the steps taken
Oversensitive personality
• They can not absorb the remarks/opinions of others
around; extreme sensitiveness brings discomfort of
their life and thus blocks the usual growth of life; this
personality generally stays withdrawal and aloof.
If the personality of a person can
change at all
 It’s the MOTIVATION if a person has s/he can be a changed
person at last.
 SUCCESS/achievement at last speaks a lot: if a person is
successful to touch his/her Goal and target in life: life has been
changed totally.
So we only need to help a person to stay motivated towards his/her
aim in life: finding an appropriate aspire in life is a big question as
it deserve skillful analysis of the chosen options-teachers and
parents have a big role to help a child to be competent throughout
its life.
Being positive & negative: what implies it????
 Being positive means being hopeful and enthusiastic,
it enhances degree of driving force and effort: really
when we make an attempt we get ready to accumulate
energy to take the struggle of facing unknown:
hopefulness increases the shower of hormones that
needs to be there in our body to step out for managing
life situation
 Failure only reminds us to have more potential to win a
race: it is the reminder .
When a person is anxiety
prone/oversensitive: Need the action of support system
 The support system of the person should know how to behave
with the person
 As the name suggests that person needs to be treated by support
system appropriately:
1. Be careful of anxiety provoking subjects
2. Slowly help the person to get ready to accommodate with the
new situation/concept
3. Keep time for the preparative phase : as they will be slow
learners initially
4. Most important part is to help them to desensitize the cause
of anxiety by developing alternative way out in a soothing
environment
Stress: Male Vs Female
 The approach to stress is different for the two cases: male and
female
Common concept about WOMEN
 Multi-tasking
 More of a mother than a professional
 Motherhood brings change of Career: break in Career
 Extremely Anxiety prone
Few women are stable in nature, but their
number is very low.
It is not the compliment,
it is the truth of WOMEN
Male and female both are under stress –but women’s stress is unique
in nature: e.g.,
 Child care is a STRESS but it develops a special skill that every
woman has which is generated in her hormonal set-up-this part is
physiological.
 In later phase of life after the end of child care the STRESS may
turn into Obsession, Cleanliness, Re-check, Repeated thought
process, Over possessiveness and Extreme fearful if family
members do not conscious about it-females suffer mostly.
Women are unique in nature: they really
need to be conscious about the design of
their physiological and psychological
set-up.
STRESS:
SOMETIMES ASSETS-
SOMETIMES IRRITATING
So, Know your STRESS
(Eustress Vs. Distress)
Stress is not always a bad. Stress is simply the
body's response to changes that create taxing
demands.
 Eustress, which is a term for positive stress &
 Distress, which refers to negative stress
Eustress Vs. Distress
Eustress Vs. Distress
Uniqueness because
of OXYTOCIN
Men and women react differently to STRESS is HORMONES:
CORTISOL, EPINEPHRINE, OXYTOCIN
When stress strikes, hormones raise a person's blood pressure and lowers
the effectiveness of the immune system.
Production of cortisol and epinephrine same between men and women. But
the secretion of oxytocin differs-the cause of uniquness in women.
In women, when cortisol and epinephrine rush through the bloodstream in a
stressful situation, oxytocin comes into play. It is released from the brain,
countering the production of cortisol and epinephrine, and PROMOTING
NURTURING AND RELAXING EMOTIONS-at certain level they enjoy to be
involved.
While men also secrete the hormone oxytocin when they're stressed, it's in
much smaller amounts.
Stress Increases Empathy in Women,
Decreases It in Men
 Men respond to stress in a fight-
or-flight manner, conserving
their energy for the
confrontation
 Women on the other hand, take a
"tend-and-befriend" approach.
 So women are good in BABY
CARE and Service Oriented
Industry.
Who’s Under More
Stress?-Statistics
Women undergo lots
of stress from their
lifestyle
You are the sufferer
specially after
giving birth a Child
Thank you
Thank you

Anxiety and support system

  • 1. The discussion of today Dr Rupa Talukdar
  • 2. A feeling of trouble, unease, or apprehensiveness in response to imminent danger. Fear is a vital response to physical and emotional danger—if we didn't feel it, we couldn't protect ourselves from legitimate threats. But often we fear situations that are far from life-or-death, and thus hang back for no good reason. Traumas or bad experiences can trigger a fear response within us that is hard to quell. Yet exposing ourselves to our personal demon(evil spirit) is the best way to move past them.
  • 3. Anxiety A feeling of doom, unease, or apprehensiveness when no danger is imminently present. Anxiety is a general term for several disorders that cause nervousness, fear, apprehension, and worrying. These disorders affect how we feel and behave, and they can manifest real physical symptoms. Mild anxiety is vague and unsettling, while severe anxiety can be extremely incapacitating, having a serious impact on daily life.
  • 4. Phobia A phobia is a type of anxiety. It's an irrational, unreasonable fear of an object or situation. A phobia starts when a person begins organizing their lives around avoiding the object of their fear. A phobia is much more serious than a simple fear. Sufferers have an overpowering need to steer clear of anything which triggers their anxiety. Individuals with a phobia go to great lengths to avoid a perceived danger which is much greater in their minds than in real life. If confronted with the source of their phobia, the person will suffer enormous distress, which can interfere with their normal function; it can sometimes lead to total panic.
  • 5. The body‘s response to danger (or stress- provoking events) and the associated symptoms. Anything that poses a challenge or a threat to our well-being is a stress. Some stresses get you going and they are good for you - without any stress many say our lives would be boring and would probably feel pointless. However, when the stresses undermine both our mental and physical health they are bad. • Stress is the feeling we have when under pressure, while stressors are the things we respond to in our environment. Examples of stressors are noises, unpleasant people, a speeding car, or even going out on a first date. The difference between "stress" and "a stressor“
  • 6. Rigidity and Flexibility Cognitive and Emotional flexibility are included in most lists of executive or self- regulatory functions. To overcome fear/anxiety/phobia people needs to be future oriented: increase of adaptability demands flexibility in personality Rigid person prefers staying with old views as they like to block change or accept very slowly the new concept/new frame of reference. Cognitive flexibility enables students to shift effortlessly from task to task at school, from topic to topic in conversation, from one role to another in games, and the like. Emotional flexibility enables students to experience the full range of emotion, like happiness, sadness, or anger, but be able to express them appropriately and then leave that emotional expression behind when it is time to move on.
  • 7. It’s the personality Human being generally can adapt with the changes around. In practice it has been observed that there is few people who gladly accept the change and some people are there who at first attempt stay uncomfortable with the change: they are of rigid personality. All around us each and every inch of life changes as we grow with time: change is the LIFE: students, adults whose emotional and cognitive functioning are rigid , they suffer a lot: they will be under stress.
  • 8. When everything around is OK/not Ok We have tendency to fixing blame first instead of realizing the problem/conflict No blame is allowed: need an attempt to analyze the failure of certain project/action/deed Just have an idea: • The quality of a painting is the responsibility of a painter only. Like this quality of our life and lifestyle is the sole responsibility of us only. • So a person is only ok when the same person gets the right man within himself /herself and then only s/he can see the world outside right.
  • 9. To be Ok, need to learn how to be a responsible person Leading a life of own is only possible if a person learns how to take joy and sorrow with equal responsibility If cause of joy is only the responsibility of a person then reason of failure is also for the same person Needs to learn success and failure with equal interest For failure instead of blaming others it is wise to analyze the entire situation being flexible to accept the new approach Open to ideas may bring triumph in the next step and helps a person to learn there is always an alternative process to achieve a goal.
  • 10. Why we could not analyze the reality of failure It’s the personality of the person The environment around The childhood learning process The immediate relatives in the family
  • 11. It is the personality In our previous lesson we talked about the BIG Five Personality : 5-Dimentional personality  Extraversion/Introversion  Agreeableness: skill of going along  Neuroticism: instability  Conscientiousness: motivation  Openness: alternative way of thought The combination of above 5-dimension constitutes a personality
  • 12. How to manage all these factors in life!!! Personality is the combination of these five factors: Variation of these five factors produces a unique nature of each personality, for these each human being is unique in nature So there is no common way to nurture a baby: every individual demands a set of new approaches There is some general categories which every individual should learn to have a complete picture: but when a person is going to deal with reality s/he should have capacity to adopt an alternative as per situation. So our seniors has duty to cultivate creativity in every individual so that they can bring innovation when a generalized approach fails. Creativity invites alternatives in life; it brings a freshness and sooth in personality; that generates ultimate happiness in life.
  • 13. Be happy with changes of life: it helps you to be competent For enjoying a life we need to be competent to handle our life situation First step is to remember, it is my life; so it’s our situation that we are going to face every moment of our life Foremost duty of us to become knowledgeable how to handle the life situation To become knowledgeable each one of us needs to be courageous to act as an observer and have keenness to generate next step to face the situation positively.
  • 14. Which personality suffers most!!!!!! Personality with Extreme Anxiety proneness: • To them each and every change is anxiety provoking- they can not simply allow anything around to change for even betterment of the same person in future: always suspicious about the steps taken Oversensitive personality • They can not absorb the remarks/opinions of others around; extreme sensitiveness brings discomfort of their life and thus blocks the usual growth of life; this personality generally stays withdrawal and aloof.
  • 15. If the personality of a person can change at all  It’s the MOTIVATION if a person has s/he can be a changed person at last.  SUCCESS/achievement at last speaks a lot: if a person is successful to touch his/her Goal and target in life: life has been changed totally. So we only need to help a person to stay motivated towards his/her aim in life: finding an appropriate aspire in life is a big question as it deserve skillful analysis of the chosen options-teachers and parents have a big role to help a child to be competent throughout its life.
  • 16. Being positive & negative: what implies it????  Being positive means being hopeful and enthusiastic, it enhances degree of driving force and effort: really when we make an attempt we get ready to accumulate energy to take the struggle of facing unknown: hopefulness increases the shower of hormones that needs to be there in our body to step out for managing life situation  Failure only reminds us to have more potential to win a race: it is the reminder .
  • 17. When a person is anxiety prone/oversensitive: Need the action of support system  The support system of the person should know how to behave with the person  As the name suggests that person needs to be treated by support system appropriately: 1. Be careful of anxiety provoking subjects 2. Slowly help the person to get ready to accommodate with the new situation/concept 3. Keep time for the preparative phase : as they will be slow learners initially 4. Most important part is to help them to desensitize the cause of anxiety by developing alternative way out in a soothing environment
  • 18. Stress: Male Vs Female  The approach to stress is different for the two cases: male and female Common concept about WOMEN  Multi-tasking  More of a mother than a professional  Motherhood brings change of Career: break in Career  Extremely Anxiety prone Few women are stable in nature, but their number is very low.
  • 19. It is not the compliment, it is the truth of WOMEN Male and female both are under stress –but women’s stress is unique in nature: e.g.,  Child care is a STRESS but it develops a special skill that every woman has which is generated in her hormonal set-up-this part is physiological.  In later phase of life after the end of child care the STRESS may turn into Obsession, Cleanliness, Re-check, Repeated thought process, Over possessiveness and Extreme fearful if family members do not conscious about it-females suffer mostly. Women are unique in nature: they really need to be conscious about the design of their physiological and psychological set-up.
  • 20. STRESS: SOMETIMES ASSETS- SOMETIMES IRRITATING So, Know your STRESS (Eustress Vs. Distress) Stress is not always a bad. Stress is simply the body's response to changes that create taxing demands.  Eustress, which is a term for positive stress &  Distress, which refers to negative stress
  • 23. Uniqueness because of OXYTOCIN Men and women react differently to STRESS is HORMONES: CORTISOL, EPINEPHRINE, OXYTOCIN When stress strikes, hormones raise a person's blood pressure and lowers the effectiveness of the immune system. Production of cortisol and epinephrine same between men and women. But the secretion of oxytocin differs-the cause of uniquness in women. In women, when cortisol and epinephrine rush through the bloodstream in a stressful situation, oxytocin comes into play. It is released from the brain, countering the production of cortisol and epinephrine, and PROMOTING NURTURING AND RELAXING EMOTIONS-at certain level they enjoy to be involved. While men also secrete the hormone oxytocin when they're stressed, it's in much smaller amounts.
  • 24. Stress Increases Empathy in Women, Decreases It in Men  Men respond to stress in a fight- or-flight manner, conserving their energy for the confrontation  Women on the other hand, take a "tend-and-befriend" approach.  So women are good in BABY CARE and Service Oriented Industry.
  • 25. Who’s Under More Stress?-Statistics Women undergo lots of stress from their lifestyle You are the sufferer specially after giving birth a Child
