  1. This is the motherboard connected to the power board and the input circuit/keys circuit, we are going to explain how they work shortly. The motherboard processes signals and directs the power flow within the system. For example, when you set an alarm, you use the keys to make an input to the motherboard, the motherboard will give priority to the numbers you’re inputting and display them instead of time (so you will be able to see exactly what time you’re setting the alarm to), then when the alarm time is set, and the time comes, it allows the current to go to the speakers and then the speaker beeps for a number of times, if you click snooze, it stop for 5 minutes and so on. So the motherboard is the most intricate piece in the alarm clock.
  2. there is a quartz crystal “oscillator”,figure 12, that, when electricity is inducted to it, it oscillates at a particular frequency and produces a voltage. And, so the signal the quartz crystal generates is an accurate 60 Hz (oscillations/sec). And, because of this accuracy, one could acquire of a very precise division of time. In order to use this signal to measure time, one needs to separate these divisions into minutes and hours . Thus, the signal is picked up by an Integrated Circuit (IC) that works as a divider/counter. The counter serves to divide this frequency from 60 Hz per second to 1 Hz per second, and so we have accurate seconds that is also divided to have the minute counter and then divided again to create the hour counter.
