2. Purpose
For participants to develop/increase your
understanding of:
• The needs and concerns of people with epilepsy.
• Commissioning and how local voluntary and
community groups and other patient and public
groups complement each other.
• Ways to communicate effectively, using
negotiating and persuasive communication skills.
3. Learning outcomes
By the end of the course you should be able to:
• Communicate with confidence about the
needs of people with epilepsy.
• Have a good working knowledge of other
long- term and/or neurological conditions that
are similar to, or often co-exist with epilepsy.
• Demonstrate understanding of the structures
of the new NHS, particularly with reference to
commissioning.

• Identify practical ways you can influence
commissioning to improve outcomes for
people with epilepsy.
• Show evidence of persuasive communication
in oral or written communication.
